2 Arrested After Drug Sale Witnessed By Southbridge Police

Southbridge Police have announced the arrest of two local men following an alleged drug sale on Everett Street in that town on Thursday.

Detectives approached one of the vehicles involved in the transaction with one of the occupants reportedly holding a syringe containing heroin.  Police say, the suspect, 25-year-old Nicholas Harrington of Holland, attempted to discard the heroin before being placed into custody.  Police say he was carrying additional needles and packets of suspected heroin at the time of his arrest.

After the transaction, a suspect from a second vehicle, identified as 36-year-old Gary Ortiz of Southbridge, was taken into custody while counting a large amount of cash.  He was charged with distribution of class A heroin (subsequent offense), with distribution of class A heroin and with possession of class B cocaine.

Police removed containers holding over 300 packets of suspected heroin and baggies containing suspected cocaine, a digital scale and other packaging materials commonly used for the distribution of narcotics.  Approximately $8,000 in cash was also recovered from the vehicle.

Both suspects were held at Southbridge Police Headquarters and were scheduled to be arraigned in Dudley District Court on Friday, September 13th.
