On Friday, February 23rd, just before 5PM, Officers from the Charlton Police Department responded with Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police to a tractor trailer vs. car accident across from the Treehouse Brewery.

Both vehicles were traveling west on Sturbridge Road (Route 20) when the car, a Volkswagen, slowed to turn into the driveway of the Brewery. The truck driver did not yield to the stopped car and catapulted it across the eastbound lanes of traffic, up an embankment and into a tree.

Charlton Fire and Ambulance personnel responded and tended to the occupants of the vehicles, who only sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The accident is currently under investigation locally by Charlton Police and Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section.  According to a post on Facebook, police called this a case of “Traveling too fast – Following too close.”

Police note that signs warning of turning traffic have been posted 1,000 feet prior to the Brewery’s entrance for over a month and are activated during business hours.

The roadway was partially shutdown for about an hour while the motorists were treated and vehicles were removed.
