Dudley Votes In Favor Of Veterans Portion Of Local Cemetery

During last night’s meeting, Selectmen in Dudley have announced a proposal that would assign a portion of Corbin Cemetery for use exclusively by veterans and their spouses.

The idea was proposed by local residents and veterans Stephen Rogerson and Richard Majercik.

Corbin Cemetery will allow the families of veterans a local option to visit their loved one’s graves without having to drive to a veteran’s cemetery out of town.

To be eligible for one of these new cemetery plots, a veteran must be a Dudley resident at the time of death and the family must provide proof of an honorable discharge.  Spouses would able to be buried if they are married to the veteran at the time of death.  The family of the late veteran would be responsible for paying for any fees incurred.

The board voted in favor for this measure to move closer to a final approval.  A plan is currently being worked on and will be brought to a future meeting.
