Things are looking a little different on South Main Street in Webster.  At number 505 to be exact.  The former home of The Gift Gallery for over 30 years has now been purchased by Donald Bourque. Earlier this month, Don’s companies Choice1Graphics and Choice1Temps moved from their old locations downtown on Main Street to this larger building. Don tells THE LAKE 940, “We needed more room for the companies that I now own and the expansion of the graphics store.”  Also under the same roof now are Choice1Realty, Marchand Insurance, Brooks Transportation, and the Webster/Dudley/Oxford Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, May 16th, just after 8 AM a teacher at Southbridge High School reported to staff that he had just found one live round of 9mm ammunition in the rear stairwell of the building.  As a result, the school was placed on lockdown. After reviewing video surveillance during the lockdown, police determined that the teacher who reported the ammunition, Alfred Purcell III was responsible for placing it there.  He was seen standing in the stairwell and removing the live round of ammunition from his pocket and dropping it on the floor.  Police say Purcell returned and stood over the live round of ammunition about 10 minutes later and took a picture of it with…

In 2016, 6-year-old Jaeden Robinson of Webster passed away.  After battling leukemia for more than half of his life, it had gone into remission, but sadly he contracted meningitis and died suddenly. His parents, Shawn and Samantha, and siblings Devin and Alexa are determined to keep Jaeden’s memory alive. Recently, The Robinson Family went to visit his grave at Mount Zion Cemetery, as they often do.  They dropped off a large stuffed “Minions” toy and some new flowers.  Just a few days later they were gone. After contacting police and town officials, they are still looking for the person or people responsible for taking the items, even though it isn’t likely they will be caught. …

While on patrol of town on Tuesday, May 14th at about 10:30 PM, Officer Michael Reardon was in the area of Harris and Elm Street responding to a report of a person looking into parked vehicles when he observed a car drive past him with its high beams on.  The officer signaled his high beams numerous times in an attempt to get the motorist to lower his, but was unsuccessful in doing so. Connecticut State Police Troop D have announced they are looking to locate and arrest 27-year-old Patrick Salvas. Salvas, who was arrested last year after a Webster burglary, is also wanted for another burglary and larceny in Thompson earlier this year. Police say a warrant for his arrest with extradition has been authorized.  The suspect is described as 6 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. At around 1 AM on Friday morning, May 10th Dudley Police were called to 13 West Main Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash.  The driver had fled the scene on foot.  As officers arrived, they found a 2008 Silver Chevrolet Pickup had struck a utility pole.  The vehicle was heavily damaged, and the pole had caught fire.  As a result, power was lost in the area.  A witness described the operator as a white male with dark jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt.  He had left the scene heading west.  Another witness, who was familiar with the operator, had stopped at the scene and provided the responding officers with the name of…

On Wednesday afternoon, May 8th, just after 1:30 PM Webster Police were called to a reported fight in the area of Pearl and Wall Street. Officers responded to the area and encountered a male on North Main Street at the intersection of Wall Street. The male was the victim of an apparent stabbing.  Another male with facial injuries consistent with being in a fight was also found nearby. After an initial investigation, Police learned there were two groups fighting, consisting of approximately 10 people. Based upon victim statements, witness statements and other information and evidence gathered, Police decided to focus on 2 suspects on Pearl Street. Charlton Home Fire Under Investigation

On Wednesday afternoon, May 8th at 1 PM, Charlton Fire Department responded to a home on fire at 124 Osgood Road. When crews arrived, they made entry to the structure and fought the flames with an aggressive interior attack.  The fire was deemed under control about an hour later. Mutual aid was brought in from Southbridge, Sturbridge, Auburn, and Spencer.   The cause of the fire is not yet known but is still under investigation by Charlton Fire Department and the District 7 Fire Investigation Unit. There were no injuries reported.  Estimated damage to the home is placed at $150,000.

On Wednesday afternoon, crews are on scene of a “large oil spill” reported on Route 56 in Oxford near where it crosses with Route 20. Oxford Police, Fire and EMS report that MassDOT and the Department of Environmental Protection have been called in to assist.  If you need to travel in that area you are asked to use extreme caution as the roads are slick at this time.
