Webster Receives $30,000 Grant To Upgrade Town Hall

The town of Webster has announced a grant of $30,000 has been awarded from the Massachusetts Historical Commission.  The money will be used for design work to renovate the Town Hall that was built in 1927. An architect is expected to be hired and will review and design any upgrades needed, including possible work in the auditorium and clock tower. Once the plans are complete, the town has the option to re-apply to the commission for further assistance with the construction of the project. Webster’s Town Hall, located at 350 Main Street, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

It was a scary sight on Sutton Avenue in Oxford as crews from Oxford Police, Fire and EMS were called to Honey Farms/Mobil after a vehicle crashed through the front of the store. The accident happened on Thursday afternoon.  An employee of the store said, “Everyone is okay here at the store, shaken but not broken!” There were no injuries reported to the driver, or inside the store to employees or customers.  The store was cleaned up and vehicle removed.  No word on if any charges will be filed against the driver.     Oxford FIRE-EMS, Oxford Police, on the scene of a vehicle into a building at Sutton Ave Mobil Station / Honey Farms. Days after several residents reported items being taken from unlocked vehicles in Oxford, Police have announced an arrest in connection to the break-ins. Oxford Police say a 16 year old juvenile male has been charged in connection with 3 of those incidents in town. Even though the victims have been notified and property has been returned, detectives are continuing to try and identify more suspects by using surveillance video. Just before 7:30PM on Monday, June 17th, Charlton Police, Fire and EMS were called to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Stafford Street and Center Depot Road. The 2 vehicle accident closed the roadway for a short time as a white GMC van and black Ford Escape were removed.  As police investigated, they said, “it became apparent to the officers on scene that the driver of the Escape, Jonathan Morrissey of Holden, appeared to have been consuming an alcoholic beverage and was unsteady on his feet.” Morrissey was placed under arrest after failing field sobriety tests.  There were no major injuries reported. Webster Police have announced a 12-year-old female has reported being kidnapped from the May Street Park in Webster at 3:30 PM on Friday, May 31st. Police say she was taken to another town where she may have been sexually assaulted.  It is believed that the assault may have taken place in over the line in Connecticut.  The description given of the vehicle was a small black sedan with two doors.  The male was described as being white. It is a possibility that he is 5’10 and “scruffy”. Detectives from the Webster Police Department and the Connecticut State Police are investigating. On Tuesday, May 28th, just before noon, Trooper Steven LaRocco assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Sturbridge Barracks, stopped a black Toyota Corolla on Route 395 North for operating without a front license plate. After a search of the vehicle, the rear passenger, 25-year-old Eliezer Delvalle of Webster was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm, among other charges. While conversing with the occupants, Police say the Trooper could smell remnants of burned marijuana and observed a plastic package containing marijuana on Delvalle’s lap and near the front passenger.  “While marijuana has been legalized in Massachusetts consumption and open containers in public areas is not.” the State Police posted on Facebook. At just before 4:30PM, Oxford Police responded to the center of town for reports of a fight with shots fired.  Officers arrived moments later to find a 15-year-old Oxford boy suffering from a gunshot wound in front of the library.   Police believe the original altercation occurred outside in front of St. Roch’s Rectory. After the shot was fired, the suspect fled the scene on foot and was located about an eighth of a mile away on Water Street. It was the talk of the town for a week or so after people online were wondering, who may have left their boat on the side of the road.  Well, some detective work by the Douglas Police Department has answered that question. Police say on Sunday, May 12th they were alerted to a boat that was dumped on the side of Webster Street (Route 16) near the State Forest.  With the help of several witnesses and a video of the vehicle prior to the dumping, Officers were able to identify the person who left it there. As a result, 34-year-old Michael Sullivan of Athol will be charged in Uxbridge District Court for Illegal Dumping (Littering).…
