On Saturday, April 27th the Dudley Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted another prescription “Drug Take Back Day” event. For the 14th time in Dudley, the public had the opportunity to provide for safe disposal of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The free and anonymous service was well attended in Dudley with over 50 people dropping off a large quantity of prescriptions.  Police say a total of 8 boxes were turned in for disposal. There were also 3 needle drop boxes for those needed to dispose of medical sharps.  This event was so successful another one is planned for later this Fall. On Saturday afternoon, crews from Oxford Fire-EMS were called to a car burning inside a garage at the Farrar Used Auto Parts located at 204 Main Street in Oxford. Crews were able to extinguish the fire which remains under investigation.  One person was transported to a local hospital by Webster EMS with non life threatening injuries. A tractor-trailer driver was trapped for 3 hours after his truck rolled down an embankment on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The driver, a 51 year old man from Bronx, NY, was traveling on Interstate 90 when his truck traveled off the right side of the road just after Exit 10A in Millbury. The crash occurred around 7AM on Saturday morning.  Crews from Millbury and Auburn’s Fire Department had to clear trees away before extricating him from the cab of the truck. He was then transported to a local hospital after sustaining serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.   The Town Of Webster has announced their Spring hydrant flushing will begin on Monday, April 22nd and last for the next 6 to 8 weeks. Flushing of hydrants will be done during normal business hours in most areas, according to the town’s website. The water department opens the hydrants in Webster twice every year to clear out sediment build up to enhance water quality and make sure water pressures are flowing correctly.  The town has been working hard at addressing water quality issues, and construction is almost complete on a $10 million dollar water filtration plant that is expected to go online by this Summer. Students studying abroad from Bartlett High School are all confirmed safe this afternoon after flames broke out at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. Webster Superintendent of Schools Ruthann Goguen tells THE LAKE 940, “I spoke with our chaperone Mrs. Melinda Doherty and she confirmed everyone is safe.” Superintendent Goguen says that the students did visit the church earlier this morning and were on a river cruise at the time the fire broke out. Webster residents who plan to vote in the May 6th election will have until Tuesday, April 16th to register. You can sign up online at the Secretary of State’s website, or at the town clerk’s office located in Webster Town Hall at 350 Main Street. In 2019, voters will choose to fill 2 seats on the Board of Selectmen. The race includes incumbents Mark Dowgiewicz and Robert Miller, running against newcomers Earl Gabor and Lisa Kontoes. On Sunday morning a tree fell on power lines on West Main Street near Rite Aid causing Dudley Police to close the road to through traffic at this time.  National Grid crews are en route to restore power to approximately 200 customers. Currently, West Main Street is closed between Williams Street and Schofield Avenue. Power was expected to be restored by 3PM. Dudley Police announced the road had re-opened just after 5PM.

Police say the unidentified male was seen concealing 2 car stereos in a plastic tote container and exiting WalMart without paying on April 7th.
