While some people were getting ready to watch fireworks on the 4th of July, Sturbridge Police say the 2 females in the photo above entered the Shaw’s Supermarket in town around 7PM and made off with several hundreds of dollars after playing a scam on a store associate. Police are looking for help from the public in identifying the pair.  They are accused of using a ‘sleight of hand technique’ on a cashier.  The technique involves requesting change for large amount of money, hiding a portion of the money when counted back to them, while also attempting to distract and confuse the cashier. Oxford Police and Fire-EMS responded to yet another car crash on Main Street on Saturday.  This time a vehicle left the roadway, jumped up over the sidewalk and crashed into a stone wall in front of 474 Main Street. The vehicle was towed away from the scene early on Saturday afternoon.  There is no word on what may have caused the crash, or any report of injuries.

Just after midnight on Saturday, July 7th, firefighters from the Charlton Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at 63 Main Street. Within minutes, flames were visible coming from the second story of the home and it was declared a 3 alarm fire.  Mutual aid was brought in from Auburn, Douglas, Dudley, Oxford, Leicester, Southbridge, Sturbridge and Webster.   Firefighters did their best to knock down as much of the fire as they could, but there was still significant damage to the second floor of the home.  The blaze was was placed under control about an hour later. On Friday afternoon, the District 7 Regional Dive and Communication Teams were dispatched to Dorothy Pond in Millbury for reports of a missing boater. A 9-1-1 caller reported 2 people in a kayak, with one that dove into the water and never came back up.  The second person was making several attempts to go under the water to try to find him. The first responding police officers arrived and entered the water in an attempt to locate the man, with assistance from firefighters.  An underwater camera was set up, but due to the murky waters, visibility was low and the camera was not very helpful. The Webster Public School Department has announced they are taking park in a federally-funded child nutrition program to provide Summer meals to children.  Kids who rely on school meals during the school year can struggle to get enough to eat during the summer months.  Free meals served at schools in the Summer can help. The program is administered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with support from anti-hunger organizations Project Bread and the Child Nutrition Outreach Program. At 7:30AM on Tuesday, July 3rd, Webster Police, along with officers of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Task Force executed a search warrant on the vehicle of 32 year old William Perez-Crespo. The search was done at his place of employment, Advanced Auto Parts, located at 107 East Main Street.  A small amount of crack cocaine was located and Perez was arrested. A short time later, another team of Webster Police Detectives executed a search warrant at his apartment at 37 Lake Street in Webster.  With assistance from Millbury’s K9 Officer Dan Daly and his partner Kenzo, a large amount of crack cocaine was found in the couch.
