In March, Leicester Police shared they were trying to track down a robbery suspect with a fingerprint left behind in a piece of Play-Doh at a crime scene, now that man has been arrested. Leicester Police say the suspect “is currently residing at the Worcester County House of Correction and is wanted in at least two other states.” Charges were filed in connection with the investigation and the suspect, who’s name has not been released will be arraigned in court in the near future. The Connecticut Crime Lab assisted Leicester Police with identifying the fingerprint.

A 2 alarm fire on Sunday Morning on Yankees Way in Uxbridge severely damaged a home, causing the garage to collapse. Mutual aid was dispatched from Douglas, Sutton, Northbridge, Mendon, Upton, Millville, Hopedale, North Smithfield, and Harrisville to help fight the fire or cover other emergency calls. On Saturday, April 28th at 8PM, Dudley Police and Fire Departments were called to Oxford Avenue for a report of a serious 2 car crash with injuries. Officers found two vehicles with extensive damage off the road on the front lawn of 187 Oxford Avenue. A utility pole was also damaged. The driver of a 2005 Ford Taurus, 21 year old Timothy Ouimette of Cherry Valley and his passenger 22 year old Melissa Darling of North Brookfield were transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. An open house will take place on Saturday, May 5th from 9AM to 12PM at the Webster School Department’s new administrative offices located at 77 Poland Street. Students, parents, families and the public are invited to view the hard work put in by students from Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School in Charlton. Students converted unused classroom space into the new offices. The school administrative offices moved from the former Filmer School on East Main Street to the back of Bartlett High School in February. That old school building at 31 East Main Street was put up for sale the day after the move and sealed bids are due at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 30th.

At 3:16PM on Saturday, April 28th the owner of the home at 30 Wheelock Street in Oxford called 911 to report a fire in a bedroom of the home. Oxford’s Police and Fire Departments arrived within minutes and began to fight the flames. In a press release, Deputy Fire Chief Jon Belanger said the fire was quickly upgraded to a second, then third alarm so that additional resources could be brought in from surrounding towns. In addition to several Oxford Fire units, mutual aid was brought in from Auburn, Webster, Dudley, Charlton, Leicester, Southbridge, Sutton, Paxton, Millbury, Northbridge and Uxbridge. Superintendent of Webster Public Schools, Ruthann Goguen tells THE LAKE 940, “This past week marked 18 years of dedicated service for Mr. Michael Makara to the Webster Public Schools.” At his last School Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 24th Makara was recognized and thanked for his outstanding leadership and professionalism. Ms. Goguen says Mr. Makara, “has dedicated many countless hours to advance the Webster School district” serving on two school building committees, four superintendent search committees, and numerous negotiations committees.
