Monday’s Red Sox/Orioles game at Fenway Park has been postponed due to rain.  The forecast is calling for heavy wind and rain throughout the day, so instead of trying to get the game in they are making the call early.  This is the first 1:05 AM Patriots Day game to be postponed since 1984. Hold on to your tickets, they will be good for Thursday, May 17th at 7:10PM.

The Oxford Police Department conducted a planned active shooter training exercise at the Oxford High School on Saturday, April 14th.  In a post on Facebook, the Police Department writes, “Remaining sharp on training standards for the safety of Oxford residents is this department’s priority.” The training was coordinated by Officer Jason Burdett.  He tells THE LAKE 940, 17 members of the Oxford Police Department volunteered their time in off duty hours to practice in case of a critical incident were to take place. It’s College Week on Jeopardy!  Alli Ross, who grew up in Shrewsbury is now representing Worcester Polytechnic Institute on the quiz show.  She is a biology and biotechnology major in the class of 2020. She appeared on Friday night’s show and she performed so well, she earned $19,601 to become an automatic semi-finalist and will play again in the championship tournament later this month. A 37 year old Worcester woman was stopped around 2AM on Friday, April 13th after officers in Leicester noticed she was operating a motor vehicle after suspension of her license.  During the stop, the officer noticed numerous pieces of burnt glass tubing and other drug paraphernalia, which police say are indicators of crack cocaine use. Once she was placed into custody officers found an additional small foil packet that contained a substance the officer believed to be cocaine. A field test kit confirmed the officer’s identification of the substance. The woman, who’s name was not released, was charged with operating a motor vehicle after suspension and possession of a class B substance (cocaine). She was booked…

A Bartlett High School teacher is out on paid administrative leave after at least 6 female students have accused him of inappropriately touching them during class. THE LAKE 940 has learned that Michael Harpin, a special education and math teacher at the school has been off the job since February 1st.  Superintendent Ruthann Goguen of the Webster Public Schools tells us that the investigation on this matter is still ongoing, but she wants to “continue to stress the importance of having families and students speaking up when something is wrong or makes them uncomfortable.” In the letter sent home parents on April 12th, she writes, “I want to assure you that our students’ safety is our…

On Friday, April 13th, the Dudley Police Department participated in another “High Five Friday.”  Officers paid a visit to Mason Road Elementary School to offer High Fives to students on their way into school and on the last day before April vacation.  Chief Steve Wojnar tells THE LAKE 940 the goal of this program is to promote positive interaction with school children and police officers. In addition, a police presence at the school helps to add to the sense of security for faculty, students and parents. Uxbridge Police have announced that on Wednesday, April 4th around 8:30 pm a resident on Aldrich Street called to report their stone wall struck by a vehicle.  Officers responded to the scene and found debris from a vehicle that did not stop.  There were also tire impressions showing the vehicle traveled directly into the stone wall. Upon investigation, the parts left behind were the right front marker/directional light from a 1994-2002 Full-Size Dodge Ram Pickup Truck.  A witness stated that the vehicle fled the scene headed westbound towards Burrillville, RI.  If anyone has any information regarding this crash, you are asked to contact Sgt. NBC 10 Boston’s Investigative Team has been in Oxford for the last 3 months trying to uncover information about Town Manager Brian Palaia.   They report that he has been on paid leave for the last week, while the Board of Selectmen is trying to terminate his employment. It had come to the attention of the Board of Selectmen that Palaia was drinking while on the job and using a town owned car, possibly while intoxicated. The television station reports Palaia failed a random alcohol test late last month.  An emergency meeting was held on Tuesday morning to discuss Palaia’s future with the town, but so far the results of that meeting have not been made public.…
