Possible ice or snow covered roads could have lead to a single vehicle crash in Dudley around 7:30 on Saturday night.  Crews from Dudley’s Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of 350 West Main Street for reports of a car into the woods.  All occupants of the vehicle were able to get themselves out before first responders arrived.  Fire Engine 3 crews assisted the towing company in using saws to removing trees so the vehicle could be removed.  There were no injuries reported.

Last Friday, the Douglas Police Department received several phone calls reporting a dog running loose in the State Forest on Southwest Main Street.  After a search by Douglas Police, Regional Animal Control Officer Kevin Sullivan, and several residents, a St. Bernard was spotted multiple times, but, evaded capture throughout the night. Early the next morning the search continued and the St. Bernard dog, Buddy, was captured.  After an investigation by Douglas Police, 14 St. Bernards were located at a residence and ultimately surrendered to Animal Control. On Saturday, February 17th at approximately 1:30 am, Dudley Police and Dudley Fire and Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to a single car accident on Airport Road near the intersection of Dudley Hill Road. The vehicle was identified as a green 2000 Chevrolet Malibu facing east in the westbound lane with significant damage. It is believed the vehicle was traveling west on Airport Road when it went off the roadway, causing damage to a lawn.  It then rolled over, coming to rest in the road. The male operator, 24 year old Matthew Oslowski of Charlton, suffered minor injuries and was treated by the first responders.  Oslowski was believed to be under the influence of alcohol…

Here we go again!  More snow for the Webster area.  At least this time it will be coming in quickly overnight on a weekend, and Sunday will warm up rapidly so hopefully you won’t have to shovel or plow too much. The National Weather Service is calling for anywhere from 6 to 8 inches for Webster and points south in most of Connecticut and Rhode Island, 4 to 6 inches for Oxford, Auburn and points North and West of Webster.  The snow should begin on Saturday night around 7PM and last through about 7AM on Sunday morning.  The heaviest of the snow is expected between 10PM and 4AM. Troopers from the Charlton State Police Barracks responded to a 2 vehicle crash which resulted in the death of a Warren woman on Thursday afternoon. Preliminary investigation by Trooper Chris Brown indicates 52 year old Mary Gibbons of Warren was traveling on The MassPike eastbound in Palmer at a high rate of speed when her 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer entered the breakdown lane striking the guardrail.  The trailblazer bounced off the guardrail into the side of a tractor trailer, then rolled over ejecting the driver, coming to rest on its roof in the middle of both lanes. Gibbons was transported to Wing Hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.  The operator of the tractor trailer was not…

Hamlet Middle School in Woonsocket was placed on lockdown on Friday afternoon after bullets were found by a custodian in a boy’s bathroom.  Police say the ammunition was found around 1:40PM. Woonsocket Police and a State Police SWAT team were sent to investigate.  There was no shooting, and no firearm found after an extensive search.  The scene was cleared by 3PM.  No one was injured and all schools in Woonsocket are already closed on Monday for Presidents Day, followed by Winter Vacation from the 20th through 23rd.  The incident is under investigation.

A rough start to the holiday weekend commute.  Auburn Police and Fire Departments were on scene at the Mass Pike West ramp at Exit 10 with a tractor trailer rollover.  The driver was extricated from the cab and transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Drivers were asked to avoid the area for several hours on Friday afternoon while crews worked to clear the scene.  Traffic was slow for a few hours after the crash. New this morning… keep an eye out for these 2 dogs.  They got out this morning near Mason Road in Dudley around 8am and they don’t have their harnesses or tags on. A 72 year old volunteer firefighter died on Wednesday morning after he was stricken while battling a chimney fire at home on Hill Road in Pascoag, RI, right over the Douglas line. With profound sadness, the Pascoag Fire Department announced the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant Richard Jenks on Facebook.  Jenks was a 33 year veteran of the department and well known in the area, as as a loyal, dedicated, and hard-working member of the community.   It is believed Jenks tripped while inside the building and was checked out at the scene.  He later collapsed and did not survive his injuries. People have been asking us, what is going on with all the fires in Oxford?  Just after 1PM on Wednesday, Oxford Fire-EMS was dispatched to another structure fire in town.  The blaze was reported in a home in the area of the Clara Barton School.  The fire station received three calls with to report the fire.  Oxford police officers were first to respond to the scene and found  smoke and fire visible.  People were knocking on the doors trying to see if there was anyone home.
