Pascoag Fire Department

A 72 year old volunteer firefighter died on Wednesday morning after he was stricken while battling a chimney fire at home on Hill Road in Pascoag, RI, right over the Douglas line.

With profound sadness, the Pascoag Fire Department announced the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant Richard Jenks on Facebook.  Jenks was a 33 year veteran of the department and well known in the area, as as a loyal, dedicated, and hard-working member of the community.   It is believed Jenks tripped while inside the building and was checked out at the scene.  He later collapsed and did not survive his injuries.

This was the first line of duty death in the 114 year history of the Pascoag Fire Department.  Besides his wife Sharon, he is survived by 2 sons: Gregory and Travis, 3 daughters: Wendy, Sandra and Laura and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18 from 2 to 6 PM with a Prayer Service at 6 PM in the Boucher Funeral Home, located at 272 Sayles Avenue in Pascoag.  The general public is asked to pay their respects between 2-5PM so that firefighters may pay their respects between 5-6PM.

As you can see from the video below, a convoy of emergency vehicles escorted Lt. Jenks’ body to the Medical Examiner’s office and back again.

Everyone from Burrillville High School stopped class to go outside and pay their respects to Lt. Richard Jenks. My condolences to his family, friends, and the Pascoag Fire Department.
