Uxbridge Police Warn Of Text Scam

There are tons of scam artists out there, and nobody is immune to them.  Even Uxbridge Police Chief Jeffrey Louie was targeted by a scammer on his phone.  He shared this text on Facebook reminding people to not fall for texts or calls that seem too good to be true.

Remember, if you have to pay any money to win a prize or collect a reward, it is most likely a scam.

Chief Louie says, “Well…. I received a text this morning advising that I would be receiving over $2Million from a UN settlement with contact information on how to claim my good fortune via cashier’s check.”  The reminder continued,  “If you receive a similar text please DO NOT RESPOND. Stay safe & vigilant everyone!”

It doesn’t hurt to ask for the person’s contact information to double check they are from a legitimate organization.  If you are ever in doubt, call the police or the Better Business Bureau.  Never send a cashiers check, money order or prepaid money card because once that money has been sent, it is nearly impossible to get refunded.
