Chances are if you know someone who works out at CrossFit Hammermill, you’ve heard about The Open.

Matthew Bernier told THE LAKE 940 “It is considered the beginning of the CrossFit season where hundreds of thousands of people around the globe compete in a 5 week online competition!”

The top individuals and teams from each category move on to regional competitions in May, and then the top athletes from each region will end up at the CrossFit games in Wisconsin this August.

The Open is a time for all participants to test their fitness and find their weaknesses and strengths and how to better themselves as people and in their wellness.  Matthew says, “We at CrossFit Hammermill make a big deal about it and set 3 days for people to sign up and come do the weekly workout!”

This weekend was the first open workout of the new 2018 season.  Each athlete performed the same workout of the day, which consisted of 8 toe to bars, 10 fifty pound dumbbell hang clean and jerks, and a 14 calorie row, repeated as often as possible for 20 minutes.

The next open workout (week 2) will be announced on Thursday and people all over the world will try next weekend and record their scores.

Even though it is too late to take part in the worldwide online competition, Matthew tells us you can still take part in the open with other local gym-goers.  Stop by CrossFit Hammermill at 26 Poland Street in Webster or call them for more information at (508) 461-6522.
