On Monday, February 11th, at around 9PM, Connecticut State Police Troopers responded to a 911 call regarding a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 395 in Thompson.
As police began to search for the vehicle, they received information that the driver had turned around and was properly driving south, although at varying speeds and switching lanes. Troopers pulled over a 2018 yellow Dodge Challenger being operated by Jiovann Alvarenga of Worcester.
Field sobriety tests were performed on the scene, which the driver failed. Police say Alvarenga admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages at Mario’s Showplace in Webster.
He was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to drive in the proper lane, driving the wrong-way on a highway, illegal entry onto a highway, improper u-turn and improper signal.
Alvarenga was issued a $500 cash bond and is to appear in Danielson Superior Court on February 21st.
