This has people in town talking. Oxford’s Police Chief Anthony Saad may be in favor of teachers carrying weapons in class after the recent school shooting on Valentine’s Day in Parkland, Florida. During a presentation at this week’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Chief Saad explained to those in attendance what Oxford is doing to protect its students. Police response tactics have changed dramatically from the Columbine shooting in 1999. First responding officers no longer wait for SWAT teams to arrive before entering the school. Paige Moroz, a 2016 criminal justice graduate of Nichols College was recently appointed as a member of Dudley’s Police reserve force. Read MoreJust after 9PM on Tuesday night, the Auburn Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a building fire on Breezy Bend. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire coming from a shed behind 21 Breezy Bend next to the mobile home. Auburn’s Deputy Chief Glenn Johnson said the residents were alerted to the fire by a loud bang outside of their home and quickly evacuated. There were no injuries reported in this 2-alarm blaze. An additional shed and two mobile homes were damaged from the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

THE LAKE 940 has learned there was an employee with part of an arm stuck in a meat grinder. A portion of the machine that crushed the employee’s hand was detached, and emergency crews with the piece still attached, transported the patient to Rhode Island Hospital’s Emergency Room. The identity of the employee, or his or her condition, has not been released. This story will be updated if more information becomes available.

Both vehicles were traveling west on Sturbridge Road (Route 20) when the car, a Volkswagen, slowed to turn into the driveway of the Brewery. The truck driver did not yield to the stopped car and catapulted it across the eastbound lanes of traffic, up an embankment and into a tree. Charlton Fire and Ambulance personnel responded and tended to the occupants of the vehicles, who only sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
