He was a local icon in the area, Edward Hyder, the founder of Worcester’s Mediterranean marketplace has passed away at the age of 67. Hyder opened Ed Hyder’s Mediterranean Marketplace on Pleasant Street in Worcester in 1975.  The store specialized in hard to find meats, cheeses, spices, oils, hot sauces and prepared foods. Webster Fire, Police and EMS responded to a vehicle on it’s roof into a stream with one person trapped inside. Police officers arrived on Monday night, just after 8PM to the scene at Boyden Street Extension.  They were able to gain access to the patient.  EMS provided medical treatment while Fire & Rescue crews from Engine 5 and Rescue 2 stabilized the vehicle and extricated the occupant from the vehicle.  The cause of the crash is not yet known, weather conditions or other issues may still be investigated.   The extent of the injuries, and the driver’s name have not been released.

Looks like the glass is empty for Native Grill & Wings in Oxford.  We were informed from an anonymous source that the restaurant closed for good today giving no warning to employees. There are several servers, bartenders and other staff members out of a job.  The person we spoke with told THE LAKE 940 the closure is most likely due to poor management.   “It’s sad to see so many people out a job with no warning until this morning. On Thursday February 1st, at approximately 9PM, Trooper’s Ethan Hillman and Benjamin Gelb of the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Sturbridge stopped a Honda Accord on Route 84 eastbound in the town of Holland, for traveling with its high beams on affecting heavy traffic. The driver was a 23 year old male from Brooklyn, New York.  He was found to be operating on a suspended license and was placed under arrest. During the towing inventory, seven counterfeit $100 dollar bills were located along with numerous credit cards and an ATM card reader also known as a skimmer.  Numerous bags of merchandise with receipts totaling $18,041.78 were also located. On February 1st, just before 8PM Officer K. Chipman was on patrol in the area of Toys R Us in Auburn when he observed a lone, dark colored sedan with New York plates parked in the far corner of the lot with no lights on, despite the fact that there were numerous other parking spots closer to the building. Upon seeing Officer Chipman’s cruiser, the vehicle hurriedly left the lot and proceeded southbound on Route 12.  The vehicle was stopped and the occupants were identified as 25 year old Shanelle Richards of Baldwin, NY and 23 year old Corey Adams of Carle Place, NY. On Friday, February 2, 2018, members of Worcester’s Neighborhood Response Team were set up in the Main South portion of the city, conducting surveillance near 30 Chandler Street, a known area for loitering and drug activity. With a supervisor monitoring the area, he observed what appeared to be a drug transaction take place.  The suspected seller was identified as 45 year old Brant Gauthier of 155 Hammond Hill Road in Charlton.
