With snow, sleet and rain in the forecast for Sunday, officials from the Worcester County St. Patrick’s Parade have decided to postpone it. Originally scheduled for Sunday, March 10th, the annual tradition will now step off on Sunday, March 24th at 12PM at the corner of Park Avenue and Mill Street in Worcester. Mayor Joe Petty’s Breakfast and Roast is still on for Saturday, March 9th from 9 to 11AM at Fiddlers’ Green Pub on Temple Street in Worcester. Connecticut State Police have announced an arrest was made in an almost 3 year old case that took place in Thompson. On August 9th, 2016 police began investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred at 26 Central Street in Thompson. At the time, it was believed 31 year old Emmanuel Ramos-Gonzalez had sexually assaulted a 13 year old female. An arrest warrant was applied for and granted one year later on charges of with sexual assault in the fourth degree and two counts of risk of injury to a minor, but the suspect has eluded capture until now. He is accused of breaking a window of a vehicle parked at the Reliant Medical Facility at the Auburn Mall. Even though the temperatures outside have been cold, the Webster Fire Department is reminding area residents and visitors not to venture out onto the ice on Webster Lake. In a message posted on the town’s website, “As Webster Lake is a spring fed lake, significant variation in ice thickness can potentially occur with little or no warning.” The Webster Police and Fire Departments say they will “never” advise that the ice on Webster Lake is safe for any activities., however there are times during severe cold snaps that the ice is more safe than others. Just after 4PM on Friday, March 1st, a State Police Trooper assigned to the Sturbridge Barracks observed a 2017 Nissan Altima speeding on Route 84 eastbound prior to the Massachusetts Turnpike. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, instead of pulling over, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Police say the pursuit continued onto The MassPike eastbound and then to Route 146. On Saturday February 23rd, Detectives from the Wellesley Police Department began investigating an incident that occurred just after 7PM where one of their officers was injured and dragged by a motor vehicle on Route 9 East. The officer was struck after attempting to take 37 year old Theodore Newton of Delaware into custody during a motor vehicle stop. Just after midnight on Saturday morning, Dudley Police patrolling Oxford Avenue spotted a vehicle traveling above the speed limit. The officer tried to pull the car over, but it continued on to West Street, Pine Street and back to Oxford Avenue. The driver, later identified as 41 year old Kris Fitton of Webster, was seen throwing items from the vehicle while trying to get away from police. Massachusetts State Police pulled over a speeding vehicle on Route 84 in Sturbridge just before 3AM on Friday, February 22nd. Police say the 2012 Honda Civic also made a unsafe lane changes while traveling eastbound. After a short investigation, the Trooper determined the driver, 32 year old Juan Cruceta from Bronx, NY did not have a valid license, and his passenger, 30 year old Christopher Hammond, also of Bronx, NY, only possessed a learner’s permit. Oxford’s Fire Department was dispatched to a fire that began in a vehicle in the driveway of a home on Old Southbridge Road. Deputy Chief Jon Belanger tells THE LAKE 940, “The fire started in a commercial vehicle that was warming in the driveway.” The homeowner attempted to push the vehicle away from the house using another second vehicle which also caught fire in the process. The fire was called in at 6:15 this morning by the homeowner, followed by 2 additional 911 calls from witnesses in the area, and was extinguished shortly after crews arrived on scene. The Dudley Fire Department and Paramedics reported to a 2 car motor vehicle accident on Dudley Southbridge Road on Wednesday morning. First responders worked to free the occupants of the vehicles just after the crash that occured at around 11:15AM. Three people were transported to area hospitals with what is being described as minor injuries. A telephone pole was also split as a result of the accident. Crews are working to repair the pole and clear the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
