Massachusetts State Police have announced details on today’s serious chain reaction crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Framingham. The accident occured just after 11AM and involved a box truck, a tractor trailer, 2 sport utility vehicles, a pickup truck, and an unmarked State Police cruiser near Exit 12 on Route 90 East. The most serious injuries were sustained by the operator of the pickup, a 54-year-old Hudson man, who was taken by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. In an e-mail sent to students, parents, teachers and the high school community last night, Southbridge High School Principal Dr. Andrae Townsel has announced his resignation to accept a new job closer to his hometown in Michigan. Townsel was named principal of Southbridge High School in May 2016. His announcement came on the same night as the state-controlled Southbridge School Committee was set to introduce their new receiver, Dr. Jeffrey Villar. Oxford Fire EMS have been busy in the last few months. They were at the scene of a garage fire on Hall Road on Monday morning. The blaze quickly went to a 2 alarm status. There were no injuries reported. Heat from the fire damaged vinyl siding on a nearby home. Mutual aid from Auburn, Dudley and Webster assisted Oxford’s Fire Department. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

On Friday, February 9th at 8:15 PM, Massachusetts State Police arrested a man in the City of Worcester on gun and drug charges. Trooper Evan Brent was on patrol when he observed a 2003 Infinity i35 traveling on Southbridge Street commit motor vehicle violations. The vehicle was stopped and the trooper determined the operator, a 25 year old Worcester man, was driving on a suspended license. The driver was placed under arrest and, during a motor vehicle inventory, troopers located a .40 caliber Glock with a high capacity magazine and a quantity of substances believed to be concentrated THC and marijuana. Early Jr.’s new billboard campaign encouraging people to lock up their prescription medications. This is in an effort to combat the ongoing opioid crisis hitting many families. The D.A.’s office says, “We know the path to opioid addiction often starts with one pill. On Friday February 9th, just after 6AM, detectives from the Southbridge Police Department, with the assistance of SWAT members from the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and task force officers from the South Worcester County Counter Crime and Drug Task Force executed 2 search warrants for narcotics at 99 Cross Street in Southbridge.
