THE LAKE 940 AUDIO: Mike Roberts tracked down Nick Austin in between auditions to chat with us about how he got into acting, what Shaq is really like, and what’s next for him in the acting world.

If you’re watching The Olympics on television in the coming weeks, keep a close eye out for 23 year old Southbridge native Nick Austin starring in a commercial with basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal.

The commercial is a 30 second “tour” of Carnival Cruise Line’s brand new ship named Vista that includes a SkyRide, pool, spa, restaurants, and, of course, a basketball court!

Nick took some time out of his busy schedule to chat with THE LAKE 940 about what it was like to work with Shaq.

“He was a great guy.  Super nice, he was just talking to me like a normal person.”

Recording of the commercial began around 6:30 in the morning and they didn’t wrap up until about 4 in the afternoon.  The production staff and directors wanted to make sure that they had everything they needed to edit the perfect 30 second commercial together.

If Nick looks familiar, you might have seen him as an extra in The Vinny Paz biopic, Bleed For This that was released in 2016.  Or maybe you’ve seen him when he was younger working behind the counter of Sherwin Williams in Sturbridge, attending high school at Bay Path, where IMDB says Nick received the “Class Comedian” superlative.  He also attended classes at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.

This won’t be the last you see of him either.  Nick has gone on several other auditions in the Miami area recently, and also has hopes to do more projects in Atlanta and New York in the coming months.

One thing Nick has learned on his journey, is you can take the actor out of Southbridge, but you can’t take the Southbridge out of Nick.  He is still a hometown guy, but he knew he had to make a move to be successful.  He told THE LAKE 940,  “I know if I really wanted to make it happen I had to leave.”   He will definitely be back in the area soon though.

Thanks to the internet, you don’t have to wait for the commercial to come on TV, you can watch it right now below.
