Investigators from the Worcester Police Department are currently looking to identify this suspect in an unarmed robbery that occured late Tuesday morning at The DCU bank located at 11 Tobias Boland Way. Responding officers were told by police dispatch that the suspect had left the area in a small grey vehicle.  According to the clerk that was held up, a Hispanic male with a beard, approximately 5’5” and 150 pounds wearing a dark hat, scarf, and a dark colored jacket, approached the counter and slid a note towards her.  The note demanded cash and contained threats. On Monday evening, January 29th, Worcester Police located a deceased male at 4 Valley Hill Drive in the city.  The male has not been positively identified at this time, but family and friends are reporting it is the man who went missing several weeks ago, Justin Ramos. Family and friends had been sharing missing posters all over the area for the last few weeks in the hopes that he would be found alive.  Some people have expressed their displeasure with the Worcester Police Department for taking so long to investigate Justin’s disappearance after it was reported. The Oxford Police Department is warning residents of town and nearby communities to be on the lookout for scammers going door to door. Police first became aware of this scam over the weekend.  A group of youths claiming to be raising funds for the “Autistic Department” in our local schools were going door to door with a red bucket and collecting money.  At this time it appears the people were not actually accepting donations for a real charity or organization. On Friday evening, January  26th, just after 6:30PM, Trooper Sergio Figueiredo of Massachusetts State Police stopped a Chevrolet Impala on Route 84 eastbound in Sturbridge, for several motor vehicle violations. As a result of an investigation, the driver, identified as 25 year old Davon Russell of New Haven, CT, was found to be in possession of cocaine and heroin. A passenger, identified as 29 year old Marquis Hines, of Hamden, Connecticut was also found to be in possession of heroin.  The 3rd passenger, 28 year old Miguel Nonossi of New Haven, Connecticut was found to have two warrants for his arrest for prior charges. On Saturday, January 27th, just before 11AM, Officer Derek Smolinski of the Ludlow Police Department conducted a traffic stop of Chapin Street. The vehicle, a 1993 Mercedes, was being operated by 60 year old Bruce Dias of Ludlow, who lost his driver’s license for life after being convicted of motor vehicle homicide in 1991. When stopped, Dias stated that he has been driving under his father’s driver’s license who is deceased.  Dias was placed in custody and transported to the Ludlow Police Department for booking and  released on bail. Dias is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with License Revoked and will appear in Palmer District Court at a later date.

Willimantic Firefighters Local 1033, along with several other fire departments, are currently on scene battling a 3-alarm fire at at the Willimantic Waste Paper Company. Crews were called to 1590 West Main Street late Sunday morning.  Smoke could be seen from several towns away. The building is home to a waste and recycling company that services residential and commercial customers across Eastern Connecticut.  The building is one of the largest facilities in town and is full of waste and recycling materials, making the fire difficult to contain. One person has died and second individual sustained serious  injuries in a motor vehicle crash at approximately 6:55 AM on Saturday morning in Leicester. Leicester Police Chief James Hurley says that the crash was a head on collision on Route 56 near King Street.  One of the vehicles involved was a 2008 Nissan which went off the roadway as a result of the crash and partially rolled over.  The driver of that vehicle was identified as 51 year old Todd Williams of Webster.  He had to be extricated from his vehicle and was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Einstein is back! The Webster Lake Association is sponsoring their 11th annual Ice-Out contest. Proceeds will benefit the Webster Lake Association, Webster Fire and Rescue, and the Reconciliation House of Webster. Einstein was placed in Lakeview Marine Cove on Saturday, January 20th, at noon. There is a forty-pound weight attached to him. When the ice melts enough for the weight to drop into the water, an attached rope will set off the timer.  The winners will be determined by the closest ticket to the exact month, date, hour and minute he went through the ice. Tickets are $5.00, and entrants must be 18 years old.  This year the prize money is to be a total of $4,000.  1st place prize is $2,000, 2nd place prize is $1,000, 3rd place prize is $500 and 4th and 5th place prize is $250 each.
