On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 3rd police in Sturbridge were called to a home at 58 Main Street for the report of a larceny. In a post on Facebook, police say a 31 year old Leominster woman was placed under arrest. In addition to being charged with larceny and forgery, she was also charged with possession of cocaine. The Dudley Police Department asking for help from the public after 3 homes were broken into within the last month. In a post on Facebook, police say the 3 residential break-ins happened during daytime hours when the residents were away. Two burglaries occurred in the New Boston Road and Eagle Drive area, and the most recent one occurred on Alton Drive. It is unknown if any items were taken or if police have any suspects at this time. At 11:30 on Tuesday evening, crews from Charlton Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire at 136 Freeman Road. The blaze quickly became a 2 alarm fire with mutual aid brought in from Auburn, Oxford and Southbridge. Within 10 minutes the fire was already showing through the roof of the unoccupied building. The fire department says the bulk of the fire was located on the upper level of the home as crews worked to knock it down from the inside. The home is listed as having 5 bedrooms and over 5,000 square feet of living space, last sold in 2013. The fire was placed under control at 12:19AM. National Grid was called to scene…

A serious crash on Main Street (Route 12) in Oxford sent several people to local hospitals. It happened just before 6PM on Monday where a tractor trailer truck and an SUV collided, leaking fuel all over the road. The Department of Environmental Protection was notified of the spill. One person had to be extricated from one of the vehicles. Names of those involved, or their conditions were not released. The cause of the crash is under investigation. The road was closed for several hours while debris was cleaned up and police conducted an investigation. District Attorney Joe Early Jr.’s office has announced three people were arraigned in Dudley District Court on Thursday on drug charges after a month-long investigation by the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and Southbridge Police. Among the arrested were, 24 year old Edwin Estrada of 2 Cross Street in Southbridge. He pleaded not guilty to charges of distribution of a class A substance (heroin), possession of a class B substance (cocaine), and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Just after 2PM on Wednesday, Southbridge Fire Department and the Massachusetts Hazardous Materials Response Team were called to the Emergency Room at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge. According to Southbridge Fire Department, hospital staff described a package having a foul odor, and requested that it be checked out. As a result, the emergency room was put on lockdown, and a tier 1 response was activated. Just before 3AM on Wednesday, March 27th, the Douglas Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call for a fire located at 40 Depot Street in town. When crews arrived on scene, they started to douse the flames on the first floor of the 3 story multi-family apartment building. The town of Webster Water & Sewer Departments have announced they will begin to implement their water shut-off policy in an effort to recover $400,000 in outstanding bills. According to a post on the town’s website, the policy was created in 2014 and approved by the Board of Selectmen to help the departments recover outstanding water and sewer bills. The policy was updated this morth by the Water Sewer Commission. On Sunday morning just after 9AM, Dudley Police, Fire and Emergency crews responded to a 2 vehicle head-on collision on Route 131 (Southbridge Road) near the intersection of Mill Road. Police say the crash occurred on the bridge spanning the Quinebaug River. One vehicle was driven by a 22 year old male from Southbridge, while the other was operated by a 68 year old male from Woodstock. Both people were transported to local hospitals in serious condition.
