Webster Police are currently diverting eastbound traffic on East Main Street near McDonalds after a serious motor vehicle accident was reported on Monday afternoon. Police say westbound traffic is flowing slowly. Police suggest detouring through Lincoln Street and avoiding the area if possible for the near future. On Sunday, August 5th at 1:30AM, Massachusetts State Police arrested a Worcester man on Route 84 in Sturbridge after a motor vehicle stop. Troopers pulled over a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Route 84 eastbound for motor vehicle infractions. Further investigation revealed that the operator, 23 year old Miguel Portela of Worcester, was unlicensed to operate a motor vehicle and he was placed under arrest. An inventory of the vehicle prior to towing led to the discovery of a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun with a fully loaded, large capacity magazine. The cleanup has begun throughout Webster and parts of Dudley after an EF-1 tornado with winds of up to 110 miles per hour tore through downtown on Saturday morning. Luckily, only one person was treated for minor injuries when a tree fell on her car as she was driving on Main Street. Main Street was blocked off as first responders dealt with flooding and damage, and residents looked on as the roof of at least one building was torn off. In the early morning hours of August 2nd, The Coventry, RI Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a home invasion at 30 Parker Street. A female resident heard noises in her home, and confronted a male inside, who forced her out of his way and ran from the scene. As a result of a lengthy investigation, the Southbridge Police Department says that 30 year old Tommie Lee Goddard of 115 High Street in Southbridge has been charged with 3 counts of breaking and entering into motor vehicles and 2 counts of larceny. Goddard was identified as the subject caught on video surveillance last month attempting to break into motor vehicles. A warrant for Goddard’s arrest was issued on August 2nd and Goddard turned himself into Dudley District Court on the same day. He was later released by the court on $100 cash bail.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has recently identified one positive mosquito sample from the area of Sutton Road in Webster. The Town of Webster has coordinated with Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control to spray the area of concern to try to lessen the threat of the virus.
