On Thursday, March 29th at 9:00PM, the Rhode Island chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was contacted by Woonsocket Police and Animal Control to assist with an animal cruelty case at 36 Cottage Street. At the scene, RISPCA discovered 17 dogs living in deplorable conditions.  There were 9 adult pit bull dogs and 8 three-week-old puppies living in what was presumed to be weeks or months buildup of feces and urine.  In addition to the dogs, there were also 4 adult chickens and about a dozen adolescent chickens as well as a bathtub full of chicken carcasses and one dead piglet. “No one should have been living there.” said Joe…

In a post on Facebook, Southbridge Police said, “Our department does not usually post incidents involving domestic violence but we have seen an increase in the the amount of calls for service for these types of calls over the last week.”  They did, however, decide to post 2 recent cases, “to increase awareness” and to encourage anyone involved in a relationship with domestic violence to contact police for help. On Friday, March 30th, the Dudley Police Department participated in another “High Five Friday.”  Officers paid a visit to Dudley Elementary School to offer High Fives to students on their way into school on the half day before Easter.  Chief Steve Wojnar tells THE LAKE 940 the goal of this program is to promote positive interaction with school children and police officers. In addition, a police presence at the school helps to add to the sense of security for faculty, students and parents. Nikki Mead has been dancing for just about as long as she’s been walking.  She began dancing at her step-mom’s dance studio, Kimberly’s School of Dance in Thompson, at age 3.  She graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a double major in dance and business, then decided to take the leap and open her own dance studio. Webster Police tell THE LAKE 940 that on Tuesday, March 27th at 7:30 PM, officers were called to 8 Boyden Street for a child custody dispute.  Upon their arrival it was determined the father of the child, Todd Davis, had custody and that there was an issue with his daughter staying with her mother, Theresa Beaudette.  The father eventually agreed to let the child, 10 year old Lydia Davis, stay with her mother and aunt, and he was scheduled to pick up the child from school the following day. Lydia never made it to school on Wednesday or Thursday, and the mother could not be reached.  Police were unable to contact her, and it was later…

  The Leicester Police Detectives are using Play-Doh to try to track down a recent shoplifter.  The thief thought by covering a security device with the clay product it would not cause the alarm to go off when leaving a local store.   The crook was wrong.  When the alert sounded the suspect fled the scene, but left the Play-Doh behind. Leicester Police recovered the Play-Doh and found the suspect had left a very good fingerprint pressed into it.  The print is currently being processed to identify the suspect. As we previously reported, a multiple vehicle car crash took place on Thursday, March 22nd at 9:45 PM.  Webster Police Deputy Chief Michael Shaw tells THE LAKE 940 that charges have now been filed against the driver and passenger involved. Two males were seen running from the area immediately following the crash.  Officers arrived at the scene and found the motor vehicle believed have been driven by 33 year old Dimitrios Gatsogiannis, of 19 Linwood Street in Webster.  The crash caused significant damage to three other parked cars by hitting one and forcing it into the other two. After an extensive search, Gatsogiannis was located and transported to Harrington Hospital in Webster with serious injuries. …

It was a fun night had by all who attended The Webster Lake Association’s Ice-Out raffle that took place on Wednesday night at Point Breeze. Mother nature didn’t quite cooperate for the original contest that was planned in which people purchased tickets to guess the month, date and time that Einstein would fall through the ice of Webster Lake.  The weather was just a little too warm this winter, and Einstein made the plunge 4 hours before the contest was officially set to begin.  For the second time in the last 11 years, that meant a raffle in which all participants who made a guess were entered in to a raffle to give away the…
