On Saturday, December 23rd just after noon, the Subway on Main Street in the center of Oxford was robbed. The suspect is described a white male with a large build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt or coat, with dark pants.  He was able to get away with an undetermined amount of cash.  Security camera observed the suspect exit the front door and run toward the rear of the building. A Worcester County Grand Jury handed up indictments today against two people in an October 29, 2016 crash that killed a Spencer woman.  Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr says that 21 year old Andrew Ledoux of Worcester was indicted for motor vehicle homicide, three counts of operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury and operating to endanger.  Ledoux was the driver in the crash that occurred on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Westborough. As a result of the crash, 26 year old Ashley Sheehan was killed. 20 year old Gina Correiri was also indicted on a manslaughter charge.  She allegedly pulled on the steering wheel of the SUV causing it to leave…

An early morning fire in North Smithfield, RI destroyed a popular local restaurant.  The Coffee and Cream restaurant located at 4 Greenville Road (corner of Route 146A and Route 104) was severely damaged and will be closed until further notice.  The Smithfield Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire with the help from surrounding towns. There were no injuries reported.  The neighboring restaurant Beef Barn, owned by the same family was not damaged.  In a statement on Facebook, the owners of the restaurant thanked customers for their “love and support.”  There has been no official cause determined yet.   Today at approximately 11 AM, Connecticut State Troopers assigned to the Danielson barracks began investigating numerous shoplifting incidents at various businesses throughout Northeastern Connecticut.  An investigation revealed that a female stole approximately $1000 worth of merchandise from the Putnam Stop & Shop as well as local area Walmarts. The female fled from store employees of Putnam Stop & Shop in a motorized wheelchair before speeding off in a red Kia Sportage. Troopers located and stopped the Kia on Reynolds Street in Danielson and found it completely full of stolen merchandise.  56 year old Jacalyn Whittemore was placed under arrest and transported back to Troop D where she was charged with larceny. A Worcester man was sentenced to 15 years in state prison today for driving into an Auburn Police officer with his SUV as he fled police in February, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. 48 year old Matthew Ostrander pleaded guilty to 11 charges, including aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of personal injury, operating to endanger and resisting arrest. He also pleaded guilty to a breaking and entering in the daytime charge related to the break-in of a home in Millbury that led to the police chase. Ostrander was also classified as a habitual offender, which requires he serves a minimum 15 year sentence on…

Days before Christmas, 6 families are now without a place to live after a 5 Alarm fire destroyed their home in the Fiskdale section of Sturbridge.  Firefighters spent several hours putting out the blaze at 23 Brookfield Road late last night. The multi-family apartment building was destroyed and left uninhabitable.  Crews from surrounding fire departments were called in for mutual aid, including Brimfield, Warren and Charlton.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Sturbridge Coffee House located at 407 Main Street is collecting donations for the families. On December 20th at approximately 7:15 PM, a trooper from Connecticut State Police’s Troop D was on patrol in Killingly and spotted a drug transaction take place between two vehicles in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn and Suites.  As the trooper approached, the vehicles quickly exited the parking lot. The trooper followed one of the vehicles onto Tracy Road and subsequently stopped it. When the trooper approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
