Charlton Police and Fire Departments responded to an overturned motor vehicle on Route 169 in front of 230 Southbridge Road for a crash and fire with occupants trapped inside. ONe person was able to escape the vehicle before crews arrived.  The fire was extinguished quickly and vehicle was stabilized. The Fire Department says the fire could have been much worse, since it is so hot outside the fire could have easily spread to the home just feet away.  The driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Crews from all over the area are still on the scene of a serious fuel tanker crash on Linwood Street in Northbridge. A Cape Cod Gas truck reportedly hit at least 2 parked cars and then rolled down an embankment on Monday morning before 6AM. Local authorities say some homes in the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution due.  A hazardous materials team is assessing the situation and will begin cleaning up and removing the tanker soon. Just 3 days earlier, Police in Southbridge arrested a man for driving over 100 miles per hour on Pleasant Street in that town.  On Friday it was Oxford’s turn. On June 29th, just after 8:30PM police in Oxford witnessed a vehicle estimated to be travelling at 100 MPH on Main Street in the area of Clara Barton Road. Police say “The vehicle got caught up in traffic on Depot Road and the driver bailed.” Members of the Massachusetts State Police and Environmental Police assisted in a brief search to locate a 37 year old Rutland man who was arrested a short time later near 578 Main Street. Minutes after receiving word from Massachusetts State Police that a Honda Accord with Connecticut license plates failed to stop for them, Worcester Police sprang into action and found it minutes later pulling into a driveway on South Street. The driver, 22 year old Devon Ashton of Putnam quickly got out of the car and tried to run behind the apartment building where he was cut off by police.  Police spotted what appeared to be a handgun in the front pocket of his sweatshirt.  Police  removed the gun from and Ashton was then placed in handcuffs. An amazing video that has gone viral locally with over 37,000 views in less than a day!  Dan Grady captured a bobcat on video in his backyard that found a squirrel for his latest meal. Dan posted a warning on Facebook for neighbors in the Turner Road and Buffumville area of Charlton and Oxford. “Charlton/Oxford residents be cautious with small pets. Heavy rain has been hammering the area all day, and local first responders have been keeping busy.  Webster Police and Fire EMS responded to a serious rollover crash on Route 395 this afternoon.   Hours before Webster EMS also reported they were responding to their third crash of the afternoon on Route 395 where the vehicle below appears to have spun out and hit a guard rail before exit 2. Earlier this week on Sunday, June 24th Trooper Scott Maguire, who is assigned to the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, was just clearing a traffic stop, when his radioactive detector alerted of a passing vehicle showing radioactive material was present. Trooper Maguire stopped the commercial vehicle on The MassPike in Charlton to perform an inspection, only to find that the driver was not licensed to operate a commercial vehicle. The driver was placed “Out of service” and the cargo was transferred to a properly licensed driver according to Massachusetts State Police.
