Oxford Police were on scene at The Home Depot store on Sutton Avenue on Tuesday morning after reports of an incident involving propane.  Police say a gas line was ruptured by a forklift early this morning.  Power and propane service to the building was shut off.  Fire crews and Police were on scene for several hours while ventilation is ongoing. First responders have to be prepared for anything that may be sent their way.  Anything from car accidents, to robberies or even violent crime. On Tuesday, June 5th the Charlton Police Department received a call for a mother duck in distress on Route 20. When Officers arrived, they found 8 ducklings had fallen into a storm drain along the  side of the road. Patrol Officers diverted traffic, as members of MassDOT lifted the grate and fished out the ducks. The octuplets, nicknamed Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack and Quack, were all safely rescued and relocated, with their mother, to a safer area by Charlton Animal Control. Most of us remember the June 1, 2011 tornadoes that ripped through Springfield, Brimfield and Southbridge that killed 3 and injured hundreds, but there is a chance you might not have been born 65 years ago when the 1953 Worcester Tornado hit the area on June 9, 1953. Just before 4:30PM, the tornado touched down in a forest Petersham, and proceeded to move through Barre.  It roared through Worcester, where it destroyed Assumption College and several other buildings continuing through to Shrewsbury, Southborough and Westborough where it finally dissipated over Framingham. The powerful storm stayed on the ground for nearly 90 minutes, traveling 48 miles across Central Massachusetts.  In total, 94 people were killed, making it the 20th…

Webster Police say a male, driving what is believed to be a 2003-2006 GMC 4-door quad cab pickup truck, pulled into Lakeview Marine’s parking lot on Thompson Road and left with a trailer holding 2 Yamaha Wave Runners.  Security cameras caught the suspect in the act just after 9PM on Monday, June 4th.  Police say the suspect both approached and left in the direction of Thompson.  The vehicle has no visible front license plate or inspection sticker, and a burned out passenger side tail light.  The stolen wave runners are a 2008 Yamaha SHO Cruiser, and a 2017 Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO with a limited edition JL Audio Slam Pack System.  The trailer is a 2014…

On Saturday, June 2nd at 2:22AM, West Brookfield Police Officer Paul Cowden stopped a vehicle on West Main Street operated by 28 year old Jeffrey Brodeur of Warren. During the stop, actions by the driver caused the officer’s suspicions to be raised.  Upon further investigation, a quantity of drugs, a scale, baggies and a ledger book were recovered with $900 cash. Brodeur was arrested and charged with possession of a class B drug with intent to distribute.  He was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court.

A 42-year-old Leominster man, who was found guilty of a series of house breaks in 2012, was sentenced to prison for an additional 8 years on Wednesday after he was found in violation of  his probation. Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.’s office says David King was originally sentenced to 7 to 8 years in state prison with 3 years of probation in 2012 for breaking into houses in towns including Oxford, Shrewsbury, Southborough, Grafton and Leominster.  He was released from prison in August 2017 and arrested a month later. On Wednesday, June 6th, Superintendent of Webster Public Schools Ruthann Goguen announced, Dr. Peter Cushing has been hired as the next Principal of Bartlett High School.  Dr. Cushing will be joining the Webster Public Schools on July 1.  Superintendent Goguen said, “we look forward to welcoming him to our community.” Dr. Cushing recently spent some time at Bartlett meeting students and staff members and will be arriving in Webster from the Narragansett Regional School District in Templeton, where he has served as the middle school principal and the assistant high school principal.  Prior to that Dr. Cushing also taught high school history in Lynn and Arlington before entering administration.
