The Webster Brotherhood of Firefighters has announced a Fiesta Shows Carnival is coming to Webster on June 21 through the 24th.  The carnival with rides, food, entertainment and prizes will be located on Memorial Beach in Webster.  A portion of the proceeds will go to the Webster Fire Department. There will be unlimited ride specials on Thursday and Sunday nights, admission is $30 per person per session and discount coupons can be downloaded here.  The carnival will open at 5PM on Thursday and Friday and 1PM on Saturday and Sunday.

An 18 year old Worcester man died on Saturday night after going under the water while swimming in Webster Lake. Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr.’s office says the victim was identified as Christensen Agnant, a recent graduate of South High Community School in Worcester.  Worcester School Superintendent Maureen Binienda is making grief counselors available to students and teachers at the school on Monday. Webster Police received a 911 call around 7:30 PM reporting that a young man had gone under the water near the Lakeside boat ramp and that several people were trying to find him. Sunday Afternoon Update:  Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early has identified the victim. That information is posted here. Crews from several local Fire and Rescue departments, including Webster, Oxford, Southbridge and Auburn were dispatched to the Lakeside Boat Ramp on Lakeside Avenue in Webster for the report of a distressed swimmer around 7:30PM.   Dive teams began looking for an 18 year old male who was reported missing a few minutes later. The body was recovered and removed from the scene just before 9PM.  The identity of the victim has not been released.

On Friday, June 1st at about 2 PM, Massachusetts State Police stopped a vehicle on The MassPike in Charlton that led to the arrest of 3 people from Ohio. A Trooper from the Sturbridge Barracks observed a 2017 Hyundai Accent traveling slowly in the left lane of Route 90 Eastbound in Sturbridge,  causing other vehicles to pass it on the right.  The vehicle then reportedly moved to the middle lane, almost causing an accident. Trooper Scott Shea pulled the vehicle over at the Charlton rest area and determined that the operator was driving without a license or a valid rental contract for the car.  Upon further investigation, a .38 caliber revolver and five rounds of ammunition…

Mosquito Control to offer comprehensive mosquito control services and programs throughout the area this summer.  The goal is to reduce mosquito exposure to the public and the potential for disease transmission by mosquitoes through education, mosquito surveillance, tire recycling, mosquito spraying and more. Southbridge Police have announced the arrest of 2 men after conducting surveillance in a high crime area of town.  At around 5:30 on Monday afternoon police watched 3 men exchange items suspected to be narcotics. Police questioned one of the men, later identified as Joaquin Rosario, if he was possession of an illegal substance.  Police say Rosario stated “I don’t think so…these are not my pants” and “if you find any drugs, I didn’t know they were there.” During further investigation, two folded purple wax envelopes containing suspected heroin was recovered on him and he was placed under arrest. The elusive peacock who has been roaming the streets of Uxbridge for the last week was almost captured several times but met an untimely end on Thursday morning. He was nicknamed ‘Waldo’ and had people wondering where he was at all times of the day.  The unofficial mascot for the town of Uxbridge was hit by a car and killed. A message on his official Facebook page sent “Special thanks to the Uxbridge Police Department for taking so many calls every day, and to Kevin the Animal Control Officer.” His owner Paige Eastman Dickinson posted, “My heart is broken.
