Connecticut State Police have placed a Monson man under arrest after a threat was made against the school he works at. 58 year old David Wachta, a school custodian at the Stafford Middle School in Stafford, CT was arrested after another staff member overheard him allegedly say that he was planning to “shoot up” the school on Monday morning. A lockdown was put into place until an arrest warrant was issued and Wachta was arrested just before noon on Monday, April 9th. He is being held on $100,000 bond and will face charges in court on Tuesday.

Just after midnight on Monday, April 9th, the Auburn Fire Department responded to a call reporting a shed on fire behind a mobile home located at 4 Breezy Bend. Fire crews found heavy fire coming the shed and extinguished it quickly. Deputy Chief Glenn Johnson said the residents were alerted to the fire by the glow coming from their backyard. They evacuated the home and called 911. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. An additional shed and one mobile home were damaged from the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. This is the second fire on Breezy Bend in recent months, the last report was at 21 Breezy Bend in late February.

The Bartlett High School’s choir “Impressions” came out on top of their tier as grand champions at the 2018 Eastern Show Choir Festival held on Saturday night in Waltham. THE LAKE 940 has learned that former WBZ-TV Channel 4 news anchor Tony Pepper has died. According to his obituary, Pepper passed away on Tuesday, April 3rd at the age of 79 after complications due to diabetes and heart disease. Tony anchored the news on Channel 4 in the 1970s with Jack Williams. Before joining Channel 4 he served in the U.S. Navy and worked in television in Sacramento and Denver. After leaving TV news he was heard on morning radio in Boston. Tony is survived by his wife, Dorothy Butler, daughter, Deborah Pepper and her husband Doug of Milton, siblings Ross, Pete and Penny of California, their spouses and children. A serious 2 vehicle crash took place on Main Street in Oxford on Friday evening. One vehicle ended up rolled onto its side. Oxford Fire/EMS had to use special equipment to free several occupants of one of the vehicles. There were no life threatening injuries reported. Starting on April 9th, the Webster Water Department will begin flushing hydrants throughout town. This process will continue until all hydrants are completely flushed. The cleanse will be conducted during normal business hours in most areas. The water department says the program should be finished in 6 to 8 weeks. The water department says there is no need to be alarmed as dirty or discolored water is normal as a result of your zone, or an adjacent zone being flushed. Sturbridge Police hope to deliver this man to jail. An armed robbery took place at the Sturbridge Post office on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect is seen running out of the building in the photo above. Police say a black firearm was shown during the robbery. The subject fled in a brown Buick headed towards Southbridge. The car had no visible license plates according to the surveillance photo above. Officer Garrett Danna is investigating this case with assistance of the Postal Inspectors Office.
