Webster Police have announced that 2 of their cruisers were involved in crashes this week.  The first accident took place over the line in Oxford last Thursday involving Officer Jacek Ochocki as he  was traveling on Cudworth Road over the bridge by Route 395.  Police say a minivan swerved into his lane and struck his cruiser head-on.  The cruiser sustained extensive front-end damage, but luckilly neither the officer, nor the operator of the other vehicle, had significant injuries.  That collision is being investigated by the Oxford Police Department and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. Just before 6 PM on Tuesday, July 30th, Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Sturbridge Barracks observed a gray Honda Accord speeding on Route 84 through Sturbridge. The vehicle was observed traveling 65 miles per hour in a posted 50 mile per hour zone.  Once the driver was pulled over, 28-year-old David Baez-Vega of Springfield, gave consent to search the vehicle.  Police say as a result of the search, over one kilogram of a substance believed to be cocaine was found tightly wrapped in plastic.  Baez-Vega was arrested and the vehicle was towed from the scene. Dudley Police are looking for help from the public after they responded to a report of an armed robbery at Patriot Gas convenience store, located at 251 West Main Street. Police say 2 male suspects, or a possibly a male and a female entered the store, one armed with a silver handgun.  The individuals got away with cash and cigarettes and were believed to have left the area in an unknown vehicle, possibly a pickup truck. Massachusetts State Police has announced a wanted suspect in Southbridge was apprehended with help from a K-9 officer and his handler. On Friday, July 26th Trooper Alex Berry was in the area heading home when he heard Southbridge Police officers were involved in a foot pursuit.  He and K-9 Indy arrived on the scene to help search for a fugitive who had warrants for breaking and entering.   Indy acquired the suspect’s scent and began tracking north through several yards until the trail was lost.  The search was called off for a short time until another Southbridge officer observed the suspect as a passenger in a vehicle and pulled it over.  The suspect attempted to flee…

Southbridge Police have announced the arrest of 33-year-old Concepcion Rodriguez of Worcester. Detectives along with members of the United States Marshall’s office and Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section made the arrest at around 10:30 AM on Wednesday morning at hiding in the basement of a home located at 115 High Street in Southbridge. The suspect was taken in for outstanding warrants. Rodriguez was wanted for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery with a firearm, assault to commit a felony, carrying a firearm without a license, assault, and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace. A Thompson man has been arrested in connection to an abduction of a 12-year-old girl from Webster in May. Webster Police announced 35-year-old Joshua Besaw after a lengthy investigation, which included reviewing surveillance video. Police believe Besaw enticed the child to enter his vehicle at a park in Webster, then drove her across the state line into Connecticut where an assault took place.  The child was then dropped off in a Dudley neighborhood and contacted her parents who picked her up and brought her to police. Detectives who were tracking the suspect were able to retrieve used cigarettes that were tested for DNA that matched DNA that was taken from the victim on May 31. Besaw…

In the early morning hours of Thursday, July 4th, Police, Fire and EMS departments from Oxford were called to Interstate 395 north just before exit 5 for the report of a motorcycle crash.  Oxford Fire-EMS says, “the motorcyclist was struck by a deer while traveling on the highway.” Crews responded to the wooded area off the highway and admininstered emergency care at the scene.  The patient was then loaded onto a scoop stretcher, according to officials, and then transported to a local hospital. Police are currently on the scene of an overnight crash on Route 146 in Sutton.  A vehicle left the road and crashed into the sign for 146 Fitness at 211 Worcester-Providence Turnpike and a nearby utility pole. Sutton Police posted, “If you’re looking for an excuse to skip the gym this morning, we can tell you that 146 Fitness is currently closed.”   The road, however, is open and traffic does not appear to be impacted by the crash.
