Imagine, it is a cloudy, dark and wet winter morning.  You are driving down Route 20 in Auburn when a black SUV stopped on the side of the road  darts in front of your car.  You have to quickly move your car over to the left to avoid an accident.  Is your first instinct to beep the horn?  It was for Stephanie Kelley of Westborough. It turns out, the man driving the black SUV was Auburn Police Officer Jason Miglionico.  According to Auburn Police, he was in pursuit of another vehicle with an inspection sticker violation, but Stephanie got pulled over as well.  She was issued a $55 ticket for using “excessive noise.” In a complaint…

Well, yesterday it was beer in Thompson that tied up traffic on Route 395 North, today it was potatoes in Oxford. At around 8:15 on Saturday morning, Oxford Fire-EMS responded to Route 395 for a fuel spill coming from a damaged tractor trailer truck. A load of potatoes was being transported on Route 395 South when the incident happened just before exit 4.  There were no injuries reported. Traffic was slow and some motorists had to find an alternate route during the cleanup, but everything is now back to normal as we wait on the winter storm heading our way. On Friday January 18th, at around 12:30AM, Worcester Police attempted to pull over a gray Jeep that failed to make a complete stop at the corner of Wellington and Chandler Streets. Police say the vehicle initially sped up before taking an abrupt turn into the BP Gas Station at 30 Chandler Street.  The officer noticed the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 26 year old Anthony Wilson of Oxford, frantically reaching in the area of the glove box. After an awkward interaction with the driver, the officer was concerned that Wilson might be concealing a weapon.  He returned to his cruiser and waited for additional officers to arrive. Connecticut State Police were on scene of a tractor trailer truck fire on Route 395 North on Friday. Traffic was detoured this morning after a truck carrying beer went up in flames.  The fire is believed to have started in the front portion of the truck, but quickly spread to the trailer as well.  No injuries or crash was reported. In the event of an emergency, you may not always be able to call for help when you need it.  As of December 14th, Text-to-911 was made available statewide across Massachusetts. Gregory Lynskey, Director of the South Worcester County Communications Center says, “This is one of the most exciting changes for accessibility to emergency services in more than 20 years.” When a citizen sends a text message to 911, it will be routed to an emergency call center based on the location information provided by the cell phone carrier. Crews are on scene of a rollover crash on the off ramp from Route 146 South.  Uxbridge Police say Exit 3 is currently closed as of 6PM on Thursday night while emergency personnel try to clear the scene. It was quite the morning at the Casella Trash and Recycling Plant on Hardscrabble Road in Auburn on Thursday. Auburn Police and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad were called to the scene after a grenade was found at the plant.  It was later determined the grenade was actually a butane lighter. The lighter was likely brought to the facility on a trash truck, but it is unclear where it was picked up from.  Auburn Police originally isolated the truck and the device and let the public know that there was no danger to the public. Just after 11AM on Thursday, January 17th, first responders in Sturbridge were called to Long Pond for reports of a deer trapped on the ice. With assistance from Sturbridge Animal Control, the rescue teams were able to bring the injured doe back to land after wandering about 800 feet on to the ice. With the recent snap of cold weather many police and fire departments have recommended people to stay off the ice unless, especially if it is under 2 inches thick. Just before 4PM on Monday, January 14th, a multi-vehicle crash brought first responders from the Charlton Police and Fire Departments to Route 20 by the Juniper Hill apartments. Police say traffic was backed up for a while as EMTs cared for those injured in the crash, who were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries. Initial examination indicates a Hyundai was stopped to turn into the apartment complex when a Kia struck it from behind. Friday night proved to be a very busy night for the men and women of local first responders.  The Sturbridge Fire Department, with help from Brimfield and Southbridge, were called to the Massachusetts Turnpike for a serious crash involving 5 vehicles. A total of 2 tractor trailers and 3 cars had collided around 9:30PM causing injuries to at least 5 people.  Those injured were transported to area hospitals in good condition.
