Northbridge Police have charged 24 year old Richard Piquard of Whitinsville with animal cruelty, after he was accused of burying his ex-girlfriend’s dog alive. He was placed under arrest on Sunday, September 9th.  Kaylee Belanger, the woman who found the 18 year old shih tzu named Chico, called police and brought the dog to Tufts Animal Hospital in Grafton. It is estimated that the dog had been under dirt and rocks for approximately four hours. Douglas Police and the Douglas Highway Department have announced plans to begin road work this week. Paving and Reclamation will begin on Monday, September 10th for a section of NorthWest Main St from Wallis St to Douglas Hill Way, as well as a section of Wallum Lake Road from SouthWest Main St to Wallum Lake State Park. Construction is expected to last for the next four weeks.  While construction is going on the roads will be open to local traffic, but motorists should try to avoid the area and give themselves extra time. Sutton Police have announced the arrest of 2 Worcester residents after police observed them delivering heroin to someone in town.  With help from the Blackstone Valley Drug Task Force, officers conducted a brief investigation and made the arrests.  “We seized a small amount of heroin, $200 cash, and intend to move forward in seizing a 2006 Toyota Highlander,” the department posted on Facebook. Oxford Police are crediting a DOT helmet for preventing serious injury after a single motorcycle crash on Route 20 on Friday night, September 7th.  Police and EMTs responded to the scene and transported the operator to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Massachusetts Law states, “Every person operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger on a motorcycle or in a sidecar attached to a motorcycle shall wear protective head gear,” however a DOT approved helmet is not required. At 5PM on Friday, September 7th, members of Connecticut State Police’s Troop D Quality of Life Task Force served an arrest warrant on 32 year old Daniel Carroll at his home on Battey Street in Putnam. The warrant was granted after Carroll was accused of spraying another man with mace at the Putnam Walmart and attempted to assault him with a baseball bat.  During the execution of the arrest warrant, State Police Personnel located crack cocaine packaged for sale in the kitchen and scales, packaging materials and cash in his bedroom. Oxford Police report they disrupted 5 juveniles actively smoking marijuana in town on Friday night, September 7th.  The children ranged in age from 14 to 17. In addition to taking the marijuana, other smoking materials, alcohol and a B.B. gun were also confiscated.  “Kids as young as 14 to 17 should not be vaping, smoking marijuana and possessing alcohol. Talk to your teens about making positive, smart & healthy decisions,” the department posted on Facebook. During the late afternoon of Thursday, September 6th, a fire was sparked as a line of heavy thunderstorms moved through the area.  Firefighters from Webster and several surrounding towns battled a stubborn blaze on Day Lane in Webster, that quickly escalated to a three alarms. According to reports heard on the scanner, bricks from the chimney collapsed down on to the home.  One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Just before midnight, Connecticut State Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic violence incident on Wednesday, September 5th.  Troopers met with the female victim who stated  34 year old Keith Therrien had shoved her to the ground, threw items at her and spit on her before she could escape and call 911. As Southbridge Police Detectives were conducting surveillance in the Main Street area, they observed what they believed to be a drug transaction take place.   As a result of their investigation, detectives approached two men and watched one of the men throw an item onto the ground. Detectives recovered the item and identified it as being 13 individual packets of a powdery substance suspected to be heroin packaged for distribution.  Police also recovered $1,182 in cash thought to be proceeds from recent drug sales. Auburn Police have announced a suspected heroin trafficker from Worcester was arrested on the afternoon of Friday, August 31st.  Sergeant Lamoreaux of the Auburn Police Department observed a gray Honda pass his location on Southbridge Street at the AMF Bowling Alley. Upon following the car, he viewed it pass over the double yellow lines and was follow another vehicle very closely at an unsafe distance, according to police.
