2 Arrested After Heroin Sale Spotted By Police In Southbridge

As Southbridge Police Detectives were conducting surveillance in the Main Street area, they observed what they believed to be a drug transaction take place.   As a result of their investigation, detectives approached two men and watched one of the men throw an item onto the ground.

Detectives recovered the item and identified it as being 13 individual packets of a powdery substance suspected to be heroin packaged for distribution.  Police also recovered $1,182 in cash thought to be proceeds from recent drug sales.

As a result of the investigation, 47 year old Orlando Rodriguez of 50 Cross Street in Southbridge was charged with possession with intent to distribute class A Heroin and with conspiracy to violate the drug law, and 43 year old Jovanny Ortiz of 125 Morris Street in Southbridge was charged with conspiracy to violate the drug Law.

Both were held at Southbridge Police Headquarters pending their bail and/or arraignment in Dudley District Court on Wednesday September 5th.
