An 18 year old Worcester man died on Saturday night after going under the water while swimming in Webster Lake.

Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr.’s office says the victim was identified as Christensen Agnant, a recent graduate of South High Community School in Worcester.  Worcester School Superintendent Maureen Binienda is making grief counselors available to students and teachers at the school on Monday.

Webster Police received a 911 call around 7:30 PM reporting that a young man had gone under the water near the Lakeside boat ramp and that several people were trying to find him.

Several attempts made by the teens to rescue the Agnant were unsuccessful.  At one point an off-duty police officer dove in to help the search. Webster Police and Fire and the Region 7 Dive Team took over the search, located the victim and brought him to shore. He was transported to Harrington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim and several other teens were attending a high school graduation party nearby and had gone to Lakeside beach.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted the case and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.  No foul play is suspected.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses of the teen, who was described as “nothing but a good soul.”

A post on the fundraising account said that Christian was looking forward to starting school at Worcester State University and they are left with good memories of him.  “Let us not mourn but celebrate the life he lived and the lives he impacted.”
