On Friday, November 2nd, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. visited with police chiefs and command staff officers of the South Worcester County Drug and Counter Crime Task Force. District Attorney Early presented the group with a check for $6,000 to assist the organization with their drug and counter crime enforcement efforts in the Southern Worcester County area, including police departments in Webster, Oxford, Dudley, Charlton, and Southbrige. UPDATE: Sturbridge Police say the metal found in the candy was actually from the child’s dental work and the candy was not tampered with.  Police still say it is a good idea to check the candy. Sturbridge Police have posted a warning on Facebook to have parents check their children’s Halloween candy after a small piece of metal was found yesterday. The metal object was found in a piece of Now and Later candy according to police. The child only trick or treated in the Heritage Green Complex located on Heritage Green Drive in Fiskdale. On Wednesday evening, October 31st, Millbury Police and Fire Departments were called to the area around Providence Street by the National Grid electric substation to search for a missing woman in her 70s. The search ended overnight and was picked up again this morning just after 11AM, when the police and fire departments were assisted with the Massachusetts State Police Airwing.  Her body was found in the Blackstone River this morning. Foul play is not suspected at this time.  Her name or cause of death has not been released.

Just after 2AM on Thursday, November 1st, Dudley Police were called to Oxford Avenue where a hit and run was reported.  Three parked cars were struck.  The vehicle that was suspected of striking the cars was found stopped about a half mile from the scene on Pleasant Street in Webster. 29 year old Lauren Soucy from Webster was seen walking around the area, and police identified her as the driver of the vehicle that left the crash scene.  Police believe she was under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody. She was transported to the Dudley Police Department for booking, was held on bail, and will appear in court this morning for arraignment.…

A 27 year old woman from Webster is wanted on Cape Cod.  The Yarmouth Police Department says Gina Giovangelo, who is 8 months pregnant is wanted on an outstanding warrant by the Barnstable Superior Court. Police say Giovangelo is a convicted felon and has a wide ranging criminal record in Massachusetts which includes homicide while driving intoxicated in 2010.  Most recently, she was stopped by Yarmouth Police in August 2018 and reportedly gave false information regarding her identity. Giovangelo is wanted again after not complying with court orders.  A no bail warrant has been issued for her arrest after it was reported she tested positive for heroin before walking away from a court mandated drug treatment…

Connecticut State Police have announced the arrest of 22 year old John Goodnow, also known as “Wild Boy” and “Crazy”. Troopers were called to a home in Thompson in October 2016 to investigate a robbery.  At that time, numerous firearms were reported stolen.  A lengthy investigation took place, which included the use of DNA evidence and using the national database for stolen firearms. In February 2017, while investigating a similar burglary in Worcester, Goodnow was found to have stored multiple stolen firearms inside his apartment, including items belonging to the victim of the Thompson break-in.  On October 29th, Goodnow was released from the Worcester County House of Corrections and taken into custody by the Connecticut State Police,…

October 27th was National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, and several local police departments took part in collecting unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs. The last Take-Back Day brought in almost 1 million pounds of unused or expired prescription medication, nationwide. Locally, the Dudley Police Department joined the Drug Enforcement Administration for their 13th take-back event. The free and anonymous service in Dudley was attended by dozens of people dropping off a large amount of medications.  Police also had three needle drop boxes for those who sought to dispose of medical sharps. Just after midnight on Thursday, October 25th, Dudley Police were called to a domestic assault in progress at a residence on Brandon Road.  Police say a male is believed to have violated a restraining order and assaulted a female party.  The woman was physically assaulted and threatened with a knife. She was treated for a laceration to her hand at the scene.  The injuries are not believed to be serious. Police say the man fled the scene and was located around 4AM in Webster.  He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  He is scheduled to appear in Dudley District Court later today. Fire crews from all over the area were hard at work on Monday afternoon battling a 2 alarm fire that destroyed a home on Millbury Road in Oxford. Heavy smoke could be seen in the area and damage appears to be extensive.   The Oxford Fire Department says the original call came in just after 3PM.  The residents were not home at the time. A tanker shuttle was set up to provide an adequate water supply for the incident.  The fire was brought under control about an hour later, but crews did not clear the scene until almost 8PM.  There are two adults that have been displaced from this fire.  Fire officials report 2 out of…
