Earlier today, approximately 4,000 customers in Dudley were in the dark due to a National Grid power outage. The Dudley Police Department is reminding drivers that if you come across a traffic signal that is not working, to treat it as a 4 way stop. Due to the power outage, Shepherd Hill and Dudley Middle School will be releasing students at 12:30pm today. Power has been restored to some, but not everyone as of 12:15PM on Monday. No word yet on what caused this outage.

The family of a Grafton girl who went missing in Sturbridge in August of 1993 is holding a vigil today, 25 years after her remains were found. Holly Piiranien was 10 years old at the time. She and her brother had been visiting her grandparents in Sturbridge when it is believed she was murdered. Reports at the time said that she and her brother had gone to a neighbor’s house to look at puppies. One of her shoes was found by the side of a road that day, but it wasn’t until 2 months later, on October 23rd, 1993 when Piiranien’s remains were found by hunters in nearby Brimfield. Just after midnight on Thursday, October 18th, Massachusetts State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 84 in Sturbridge, which led to the arrest of three people for trafficking in heroin. A Honda CRV was spotted speeding and repeatedly drifting over lane markings, according to police. Shortly after being pulled over, police determined the driver, 27 year old Juan Jaquez of Lynn, or his occupants could confirm who owned the vehicle. With the help of K-9 Boomah, approximately 2.5 kilograms of a substance believed to be heroin was located inside the vehicle. Troopers additionally located and seized approximately $850 in cash. A 5 year old boy, who was reported missing from Webster 2 years ago, was found safe thousands of miles away this week. Police say Matthew Hale was taken by his mother, without permission, in September of 2016. Authorities in Orange County, Florida arrested his mother, 40 year old Christina Hale, and charged with kidnapping. A Massachusetts court granted Matthew’s father full custody of him and police issued a warrant for Christina Hale’s arrest in June of 2017. Just after 3PM on Wednesday, October 17th, fire crews dispatched to a 2 alarm fire at 24 Poland Street in Webster. The Webster Fire Department says they performed an aggressive interior attack and encountered heavy fire in the first floor kitchen. The fire spread into the second floor and was made its way into the attic before it was extinguished. The fire is believed to have started in the dishwasher while it was running. Mutual aid from Dudley, Douglas, Oxford and Southbridge assisted on the scene, while Sutton covered Webster’s station. At 7:30 on Monday evening, October 15th, Southbridge Police were dispatched to 115 High Street for an argument between neighbors involving a firearm. As police began to investigate, they found 2 males with visible bruising on their faces and one of the men bleeding from his eye socket. The 2 men claimed they were assaulted by another tenant from the building.
