The town of Southbridge has announced they will be on the receiving end of over $200,000 to develop Riverside Park.  The project will include the construction of a lighted, paved walking trail loop with benches, a footbridge for river viewing, and fencing.  The location is approximately 1 acre to the right of the Southbridge Hotel and Convention Center. This money is part of the Baker-Polito Administration’s more than $6 million dollarss in grants for funding park and recreation improvements in 22 Massachusetts communities from the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities program funded through the capital budget. Auburn’s Fire Department is currently on the scene of a 2 alarm fire at Worcester Envelope Company located at 22 Millbury Street in Auburn for reports of large piece of machinery  inside the building.  Employees have been evacuated and there are no reports of injuries.  As of 11AM the fire is under control and Sutton’s Mobile Ventilation Unit has been requested.

A 25 year old Auburn man was arrested by Leicester Police on Wednesday in connection with a string of car break-ins that occurred in Leicester over the past several days.  Police executed a search warrant last night in connection with the investigation and is currently evaluating the evidence seized during that search warrant. Auburn Police and Fire were dispatched to Route 290 West near exit 8 late this morning for a serious crash involving a tractor trailer and a car.  Crews are still on the scene this afternoon.  The driver was previously trapped in the vehicle but has been taken to the hospital by ambulance.  The driver’s identity and condition are unkown.  Speeds on the highway are getting back to normal on Wednesday afternoon.

Connecticut State Police Troop D reports 46 year old Christopher Cournoyer of Woodstock was arrested on Thursday for violating a restraining order just 10 minutes after it was served. Cournoyer was arrested and released after posting $5,000 bond and will appear in Danielson Superior Court on February 13th.  He was ordered to stay away from the victim in the future.

One person was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester after this serious accident earlier this afternoon. Auburn Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene right before the split where Route 395 North becomes Route 290 East. Traffic was slow in the area while crews cleaned up debris on the roadway, but speeds have returned to normal.  However, traffic is building up on the MassPike westbound from Auburn to Sturbridge as of 2PM on Monday.
