Uxbridge Police are warning residents and visitors to remember to lock your vehicles, and keep important items out of sight from potential burglars.  Last night and this morning they they received several phone calls for regarding breaking and entering into cars.    Most of the thefts occured in the area of Manor House, Oak & Granite Street in Uxbridge. Police remind you if you see something suspicious it doesn’t hurt to call the police.  Anyone with information regarding the recent break-ins is asked to call Detective Prior at (508) 278-7755.

Webster Honors Officer Robert Rockwood

Congratulations are in order for Webster Police Officer Robert Rockwood.  He was recognized tonight by the Webster Board of Selectmen for an outstanding job apprehending a domestic violence suspect last month.  The suspect had attacked his girlfriend and mother with a knife before trying to harm himself.  During the incident, Officer Rockwood showed great courage and disregard for his own safety when he breached the room the victim and suspect were in.  Doing this allowed him to place the suspect in custoday which allowed Webster EMS personnel to attend to the victim and rush her to the hospital. Congratulations Officer Rockwood, thank you and the rest of the department for keeping Webster a safe place…

Just before 11AM this morning, the Charlton Fire Department was dispatched to 212 Worcester Road (Route 20) for smoke in the building.   Within about 15 minutes the fire was upgraded to a 3 Alarm with several surrounding towns being called to the scene for mutual aid. The 20 by 30 single story wood frame building had fire showing from the front of the building, and first responders fought most of the fire from teh rear of the building.  The fire was under control 40 minutes after the arrival of firefighters.  The brave men and women worked in dangerously cold and icy conditions.  The 3rd alarm assignment was done to provide water supply in the non-hydrant…

It’s time to “un-deck” the halls and get rid of that old, dried out Christmas tree.  Due to the recent winter storm, the town of Webster is extending the Christmas tree drop off hours into next week.  New hours are Monday through Friday January 8th-12th from 7AM to 2:30 PM and Saturday, January 13th from 8AM to Noon (weather permitting).  Webster residents are able to dispose of their trees at the Public Works Department’s compost located at 23 Cudworth Road.  For more information call (508) 949-3861.

The town of Southbridge has announced they will be on the receiving end of over $200,000 to develop Riverside Park.  The project will include the construction of a lighted, paved walking trail loop with benches, a footbridge for river viewing, and fencing.  The location is approximately 1 acre to the right of the Southbridge Hotel and Convention Center. This money is part of the Baker-Polito Administration’s more than $6 million dollarss in grants for funding park and recreation improvements in 22 Massachusetts communities from the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities program funded through the capital budget. Auburn’s Fire Department is currently on the scene of a 2 alarm fire at Worcester Envelope Company located at 22 Millbury Street in Auburn for reports of large piece of machinery  inside the building.  Employees have been evacuated and there are no reports of injuries.  As of 11AM the fire is under control and Sutton’s Mobile Ventilation Unit has been requested.

A 25 year old Auburn man was arrested by Leicester Police on Wednesday in connection with a string of car break-ins that occurred in Leicester over the past several days.  Police executed a search warrant last night in connection with the investigation and is currently evaluating the evidence seized during that search warrant.
