If your Tuesday morning commute brings you to Worcester on route 395 North or Route 290 East give yourself a lot of extra time. Cars are at a standstill from Auburn. Electronic roadside signs estimate almost an hour to travel 5 miles. A crash in the left lane before exit 16 is being cleared and speeds are expected to get back to normal soon. This is also causing extreme backups on Route 20 and Southbridge Street through the side streets of Auburn as motorists are trying to use alternate routes.

The people of Webster have spoken.  It’s 3 more years on the Board of Selectmen for Randy Becker.  In one of the more talked about races in town it was a case of kindness over the need for change. The official tally was 862 votes for Randy Becker and 145 votes for Greg Walkowiak.  A majority of voters we spoke to feel Webster is headed in the right direction under current Town Administrator Doug Willardson and the rest of the Board of Selectmen. THE LAKE 940 has learned that some residents of Webster woke up to no water on Sunday, May 6th. Water Superintendent Greg Woods tells us a water main break at 25 Myrtle Avenue occurred around 7AM.  As of noontime “we have it exposed but it will likely take another hour or two to make the repair & get water moving again.” When Miranda LaFountain started her day she had no water at her Park Street home.  She told us she saw large trucks and water crews digging up the road on Myrtle Avenue.  “They were doing similar work on Friday a little further up the street and I had no water then as well.”  We…

MAY 8 UPDATE: The suspect turned himself in to police yesterday, we have reached out to Upton Police for more information but have not heard back yet. It was a busy afternoon on Tuesday, May 1 in the newsroom as we were getting reports of a slow speed “chase” throughout Webster, but we were unable to get any additional information other than what was being heard on police scanners.  The pursuit had begun at higher speeds on Route 395 in Connecticut. After Sutton Police alerted residents to take it slow on Central Turnpike due to road construction, it seems someone didn’t get that message on Friday.  One man, who’s name was not released, was arrested after the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a telephone pole on Central Turnpike by Lincoln Road.  He was charged with marked lane violation and operating under the influence of liquor. Sutton Police also say a second man was arrested in an unrelated case on Friday night, May 4th, for unauthorized use of a vehicle after a resident reported their car was stolen.
