During last night’s meeting, Selectmen in Dudley have announced a proposal that would assign a portion of Corbin Cemetery for use exclusively by veterans and their spouses. The idea was proposed by local residents and veterans Stephen Rogerson and Richard Majercik. Corbin Cemetery will allow the families of veterans a local option to visit their loved one’s graves without having to drive to a veteran’s cemetery out of town. To be eligible for one of these new cemetery plots, a veteran must be a Dudley resident at the time of death and the family must provide proof of an honorable discharge.  Spouses would able to be buried if they are married to the veteran at the…

The annual fundraiser for the Dudley Police DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program is underway in the Town of Dudley.  Calls are being made to local residents and businesses seeking donations to this worthwhile program. Dudley Police Sergeant Dean Poplawski has conducted the DARE Program to the sixth graders at the Dudley Middle School for many years.  This is a half year course and it is a substance abuse and violence prevention program.  This is completely funded through this fundraiser and other donations. In addition to providing money for the program, coloring books and educational materials will be produced for distribution to Dudley School Students.  The Dudley Police thank everyone in advance for their generosity…

On Wednesday December 6, 2017 at 4:18pm Detectives from the Southbridge Police Department and Task Force Officers from the South Worcester County Counter Crime and Drug Task Force executed a search warrant for narcotics at 79 Oliver Street second floor apartment in Southbridge, MA. The search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation into drug distribution in our community. Upon arriving at the residence, Detectives knocked and announced their presence and entry was made into the apartment. As Detectives entered the kitchen they observed two male subjects attempting to flush suspected narcotics down the toilet. On Saturday, December 9, at 12:16 pm, Webster Police responded to Nelson Street, for a reported disturbance involving a knife. Officers arrived to find the victim with what appeared to be multiple, serious lacerations to her neck and legs. Her ex-boyfriend, Zachary Orlowski, 28, 10 Sterns Street Worcester, was immediately placed into custody. Orlowski had apparently also cut his own neck in an apparent suicide attempt after attacking his ex-girlfriend, and was unresponsive at the scene. The couple’s four year old son was in the residence when this occurred, but was unharmed. The Department of Children and Families was contacted and is investigating. Very few details have been released after a stabbing was reported in Webster yesterday. Webster Police have not released any information other than saying a female was stabbed and a male was in custody.  The woman was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester but her condition is not known. Police have also withheld the names of the people involved, and also have not said what part of town the incident took place in, however unconfirmed reports from residents have told us that it happened on or near Nelson Street. Oxford Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place this morning on Sutton Avenue near Market Basket. The driver of the car, 28 year old Ashley Corbett of Oxford, died at the scene. Her passenger, 30 year old Ashley Dunne of Webster was transported to UMass Medical Center in unknown condition. No other information on the crash is available at this time. Sutton Avenue was reopened to traffic early this afternoon.

The Webster Fire Department crews battled a 3 alarm fire in an industrial building on Cudworth Road this morning. According to the Webster Fire/Rescue Facebook page, as of 9:50am this morning, the fire has been knocked down.  A special call was made to Sutton to use their fan truck to help with smoke evacuation. The building is the home of Lelanite Corporation located at 1 Cudworth Road.  The company has been in Webster since 1956 providing packaging for high tech, automotive and aerospace industries as well as military defense throughout the United States. A message from the Town Of Webster: Due to the predicted winter storm, the Town of Webster has declared a town-wide parking ban that will take effect Friday December 8 at 8PM. Please assist the highway department in their job of clearing the roadways, by moving any vehicle parked on a public street.  Any vehicle left on any roadway is subject to being ticketed and towed. In an effort to prevent injury or death from unwanted or unsafe guns in local homes, the Dudley Police Department has announced they will take part in the Annual Goods for Guns Buyback Program. This program will be held from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday, December 16 in association with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. The Town of Webster has begun the planning process of implementing the Webster PowerUp program, a municipal electricity aggregation. By bulk purchasing electricity for the entire community within the program, Webster will seek a lower rate than National Grid’s Basic Service electricity supply rate and the price stability that comes with a fixed contract. The program will launch once the Town’s aggregation plan is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. All Webster residents and businesses that currently receive National Grid Basic Service will be automatically enrolled in Webster PowerUp.
