We first learned about this story through the Webster Police Department’s Facebook page on Wednesday.  In less than 2 days the post has already been shared over 800 times.  It is the amazing account of the love from a pet to his owner.  Even though it is an extremely sad story, we hope the ending will bring a smile to your face. On Wednesday evening at around 6:45 PM, Troopers from Connecticut State Police’s Troop D were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in Danielson.  The disturbance was reportedly between a female victim and a male later identified as 41 year old Kevin Horton. When the State Police were contacted, Horton fled the residence on foot.  Horton was located a short time later on Main Street in Danielson and police attempted to stop him for questioning.  Horton took off on foot to an adjacent railroad and attempted to out run Troopers without success. It has been a rough few months for retailer Toys R Us and Babies R Us.  The company will be closing 182 stores across the country starting in February and ending in April.  Fourteen of those stores will be in New England. Going out of business sales will begin in the coming weeks.  This means toy and clothing sales for people in the area looking to get great deals. The closest stores to our area are located at The Shoppes At Blackstone Valley, 70 Worcester Providence Turnpike in Millbury, 217 Hartford Avenue in Bellingham, Shoppers World on 1 Worcester Road in Framingham and 300 Quaker Lane in Warwick, RI. On December 17th, Spencer Police announced they were searching for Stephen Patchen in the woods off Paxton Road.  Around 9AM Wednesday morning the fugitive turned himself into Western Worcester District Court in East Brookfield with his attorney.  Patchen had been on the run since mid-December and Detectives from Spencer working with the Massachusetts State Police Fugitive Unit have been searching for him.  Upon his appearance in court he was held for a dangerous hearing at a later date.

On Tuesday afternoon, around 2:20PM, a male entered the North Brookfield Savings Bank, located on West Main Street in West Brookfield, and demanded cash. While a weapon was threatened, none was shown.  The male was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Bank employees were able to provide police with an accurate description of the vehicle with license plate number.  The vehicle had previously been reported stolen. Several police departments, including the Brookfield, North Brookfield, Warren, Sturbridge, Monson, Holland, Brimfield and the Massachusetts State Police responded to the bank to assist. Route 12 in Webster was closed for a short time on Tuesday evening near K-Mart while the Webster Fire Department was on the scene of a fire at a small home located at 85 Worcester Road.  Mutual aid was called in from Dudley. According to records, the mobile style home is 2 bedrooms and 672 square feet.   The Lake 940 has learned at a 90 year old woman lives in the home and was able to get out safely. On social media, a neice of the resident thanked the firefighters and person who called the fire in, saying that her aunt “had no idea what was going on.”  Firefighters reportedly found her sitting on the…

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, another school bus accident on the icy roads of Sutton was reported. This time it was a smaller Ford Van that went off the road and hit a telephone pole on Dodge Road.  The vehicle was transporting pre-schoolers at the time of the accident. One student, the bus driver and bus monitor were all transported to UMass Medical Center with various injuries. We have asked Sutton’s Superintendent of Schools, Theodore Friend, if he stands by his decision to have classes today.  So far he has decided not to respond to our questions. The early morning freezing rain did not lead to any school cancellations or delays in the area.   In this Sutton neighborhood the roads were icy enough to cause several spinouts, leading to a school bus with about 20 students on it, to slide down the hill on Peach Tree Drive, ripping out a mailbox and crashing into another car. Cheryl Kearney Katz says she heard people yelling outside of her house and started to record a video.  It was then posted on Facebook.   Luckily there were no injuries reported.  A sand or salt truck was dispatched to the scene and both vehicles were able to drive away after the accident.
