As the country remembers former President George H.W. Bush, a national day of mourning will be observed on Wednesday. All federal government offices and many government agencies will be closed, including all post offices.  Regular mail delivery will not be made, and package delivery will be limited according to the postal service. The New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ and the Federal Reserve System will also be closed, but most banks are expected be open. A funeral will take place at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. on Wednesday and his burial will be on Thursday in Texas. George H.W. It was a festive night for family and friends at the 2018 Webster Town Hall Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday.  The evening got started around 5 with a concert inside town hall with students from Park Avenue Elementary, Webster Middle School and Bartlett High School performing holiday favorites. Hundreds were in attendance as the excitement moved outside to the gazebo where Santa arrived to meet with children and get the tree illuminated. If you weren’t able to make it last night, the fun will continue next weekend when Winter Wonderland will return to Webster Town Hall.  The annual event planned by the Webster Arts/Recreation Committee will include pictures with Santa, crafts, music, snacks and more.  The free…

After a day-long search, Massachusetts State Police and Worcester Police arrested the man who was wanted in connection to an overnight armed carjacking on Route 290. The suspect, 28 year old Donald Foy of Spencer, was taken into custody Thursday evening after another short chase and foot pursuit that ended on the roof of a building in Worcester.  Police say Foy rammed at least one cruiser tonight before the chase ended. Early this morning, police in Webster and Oxford connected Foy as the driver of a pickup truck that fled a traffic stop with two female passengers.  After police deployed stop sticks, Foy drove the truck the wrong way down Route 290 and crashed.  Once…

Southbridge Police have announced the re-arrest of a well-known narcotics distributor this week. On Monday, November 26th, 35 year old Paul Cucuta, who is also known as “Murda,” was arrested by detectives.  He had previously been released on bail for a December 2017 arrest. During this investigation, Cucuta was observed conducting a possible drug sale in the parking lot of a local business.  Shortly after the transaction, police recovered approximately $5,000 from another man, suspected to be the proceeds from the drug transaction they believed had just occurred. As police continued the investigation, detectives acted on an arrest warrant that was issued from Dudley District Court for the distribution of narcotics.  Detectives attempted to stop…

Just after midnight on Thursday, Troopers from Massachusetts State Police were called in to assist officers in Oxford who were pursuing a pickup truck that had fled from a motor vehicle stop in Webster. The truck, with an armed driver and 2 passengers, entered Route 395 north at Exit 3. After Massachusetts State Police successfully deployed stop sticks at around 12:17, the truck crashed going the wrong direction on Route 290 eastbound. Police say the male driver began brandishing a handgun and forced the driver of a silver Buick Enclave from Connecticut out of that vehicle. Troopers from the Connecticut State Police have announced the arrest of 23 year old Kyle Carrero after a traffic stop on Route 395 on the Thompson/Putnam line. Police say they pulled his car over on November 24th after he was spotted traveling 81 mph in a 65 mph zone of the highway.  Carrero originally gave police a false name, but a trooper who has arrested him on speeding and narcotics charges in the past was able to positively identify him. The Quality of Life Task Force (Troop D) with the Connecticut State Police say, “indicators of narcotic activity were observed and consent was granted to search Carrero’s vehicle.”  After the search, over a half kilogram…

An Auburn man is facing his 4th drunk driving charge after a crash on Tuesday night on Route 20. Auburn Police say they responded to a crash at 7:39PM near Mill Street in Auburn where it is believed 53 year old Kenneth Kudron was driving a 2004 Ford van while under the influence of alcohol.  There were no injuries reported. Kudron had 3 previous operating under the influence convictions dating back to 1982.  He was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, 4th offense, as well as negligent operation of a motor vehicle and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. An early morning fire at the corner of North Main Street and Aldrich Streets in Webster kept firefighters busy on Tuesday morning. The blaze quickly grew to 2 alarms and burned portions of the six-family home, located at 70 North Main Street, displacing approximately 12 people. No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters, but one cat was unable to make it out of the building.  Most of the damage was sustained on the upper floors. Mutual aid was brought in from Douglas, Dudley, Oxford, Sutton and Southbridge.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.   Companies are on scene on North Main Street with a structure fire.
