Dudley Police Chief Steve Wojnar has officially kicked off a new year of visiting local schools as “Officer Friendly.” The Chief recently visited a kindergarten class at the Mason Road Elementary School to have lunch and interacti ith the students at the school in an informal way.   During his time there Chief Wojnar explained his job and police work in general, and provided a few safety tips.  The goal of this program is to minimize the fear and apprehension children may have about the police. First responders from Charlton Police and Fire Departments responded to a serious crash involving two vehicles on Route 169 in Charlton on Monday afternoon. Police say multiple 911 calls were received just before 3PM.  The two cars, that were traveling in opposite directions, had collided in the southbound lane with enough force to rip wheels off of the cars. Several passengers in the white SUV were brought to UMass Medical Center with various injuries. Police say the driver of the black car, identified as Nevin Montigny, was arrested on scene and will be arraigned in the Dudley District Court for operating under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and several other charges. At approximately 1AM on Sunday, September 23rd, Douglas Police were dispatched to the area of Wallum Lake Road to investigate a report of a blue sedan doing burnouts on a recently paved section of that road.  While en-route to the area, officers located a blue sedan that was now stuck off the shoulder of Southwest Main Street nearby. Officers were able to conclude that this was the same vehicle doing the burnouts.  Sean Peterson of Grafton was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest. Dudley Police Chief Steve Wojnar, Webster Police Chief Timothy Bent, and Webster Deputy Police Chief Mike Shaw were among the thousands of participants in the 30th Annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk held on Sunday, September 23rd. The entire 26.2 mile Boston Marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston is used for the charity walk.  Chief Wojnar told us in a press release, several police chiefs from across the state, and their families, walked the final three miles to the Boston Marathon finish line.  Some even walked the entire marathon route.   The Town Of Webster has announced their fall hydrant flushing will begin on Monday, September 24th and last for the next 6 to 8 weeks. Flushing of hydrants will be done during normal business hours in most areas, according to the town’s website. The water department opens the hydrants in Webster twice every year to clear out sediment build up to enhance water quality and make sure water pressures are flowing correctly.  The town has been working hard at addressing water quality issues, and construction has begun on a $10 million dollar water filtration plant that is expected to go online next year. Everyday, the men and women of the Webster Fire Department risk their lives running into burning buildings and helping people in car crashes, but this rescue was a little different. A woman walked into the fire station on Thursday afternoon with a steel necklace that she couldn’t remove.  Luckily for the woman, Deputy Chief Chris Jolda had attended a class a few months ago on this type of specialized rescue.  He and Captain Kevin Adams were able to successfully remove the necklace in just few minutes. The Sturbridge Police Department is looking for help to identify the man in the photos posted below.  Police say the suspect is wanted in connection with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle in the early morning hours of September 6th.  A photo of the vehicle he was driving is seen above.  The suspect is accused of stealing a purse and then making numerous purchases with stolen credit cards. The school’s website mentions flooding as a concern at one of the schools.  Thompson Middle and High Schools will be released at 1:30, the elementary schools at 2:30.  No after school or recreation programs will meet today.
