2 Arrested In Southbridge Drug Bust

On Friday February 9th, just after 6AM, detectives from the Southbridge Police Department, with the assistance of SWAT members from the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and task force officers from the South Worcester County Counter Crime and Drug Task Force executed 2 search warrants for narcotics at 99 Cross Street in Southbridge.  The 2 search warrants were the result of a lengthy ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in Southbridge.

Upon entry into 99 Cross Street third floor rear apartment members of SWAT located three small children (two children were 10 years old and one child was 6 years old) and 26 year old Yomayra Vazquez. SWAT secured Vazquez without incident and the three children were released to a family member not involved in this investigation. Upon entry into 99 Cross Street first floor rear apartment 36 year old Eliud Irizarry and other subjects were secured without incident.

As a result of the two search warrants the following was recovered at 99 Cross Street third floor rear apartment; one 9mm large capacity firearm, one .22 caliber revolver, ammunition, a bulletproof vest, approximately 17 grams of suspected cocaine packaged for distribution, approximately 15 grams of suspected heroin packaged for distribution, an amount of US currency suspected to be drug proceeds, numerous items commonly used in the packaging of narcotics for distribution; packaging material, glassine packets, rubber bands, boxes of sandwich bags, scales, baking soda, and a sifter.

The following was recovered at 99 Cross Street first floor rear apartment; one Kel-Tec .380 caliber firearm, ammunition, approximately ten (10) packets of suspected heroin packaged for distribution, a digital scale, plastic baggie remains, a bottle containing numerous pills suspected to be Gabapentin and an amount of US Currency suspected to be drug proceeds.

26 year old Yomayra Vazquez was charged with possession of a large capacity firearm without a license to carry, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of a firearm without a license to carry, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession with intent to distribute class A heroin, possession with intent to distribute class B cocaine and with conspiracy to violate the drug law.

36 year old Eliud Irizarry was charged with possession of a firearm without a license to carry, unlawful possession of ammunition, improper storage of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute class A heroin and possession with intent to distribute class E Gabapentin. There was also an active arrest warrant for Irizarry’s arrest on another matter.

An arrest warrant was issued for a third subject involved in this investigation who was not present at the time of the execution of the two search warrants.

Both were both held at police headquarters until their arraignment in Dudley District Court on Friday morning.
