Booklovers’ Gourmet

THE LAKE 940 would like to congratulate Booklovers’ Gourmet, located at 55 East Main Street in Webster, on celebrating 23 years in business!  A destination store, which consists of a local independent bookstore, coffee house and gift shop, Debra Horan opened Booklovers’ Gourmet in March of 1995.

Deb is a native of Webster and graduate of The Rhode Island School of Design.  She tells THE LAKE 940, “From the very beginning, the shop was envisioned as a central gathering place where people could enjoy good books, local art, poetry & music and other cultural happenings in a cozy, inviting space.”

Booklovers’ Gourmet carries a wide variety of new & used books on all subject matters and interests as well as hand selected gift items, many locally made, including pottery, garden & home decor, jewelry, candles, incense and greeting cards. Educational puzzles & toys by “Melissa & Doug” are featured prominently in the children’s room.

The café offers homemade pastries by Phyllis’s Bakery in Putnam and organic, micro-roasted coffee from Hogan Brothers Coffee Roasters in Framingham, plus other specialty beverages like smoothies, matcha green tea and apple cider.

One thing that makes Booklovers’ Gourmet much more than just a bookstore, is there are many opportunities to socialize on a monthly basis with book discussion groups, writers groups, open mics, author readings & signings, special workshops and artist receptions.

Debra says, “The heart and soul of this type of community-based business is being able to offer cultural opportunities for everyone to enjoy without having to travel to the big city. To be able to experience different ideas and viewpoints through these events or viewing art is vital and enriching for everyone.”

Booklovers’ Gourmet is a longtime member of trade organizations The American Booksellers Association and The New England Booksellers Association.  Deb is also very active in the local business community as president of The Webster Dudley Business Alliance.

A special event is planned to mark the 23rd anniversary, and to thank the community for their continued support.  The celebration will take place all day on Saturday, March 3rd with discounts, giveaways, raffles and refreshments from 10AM-5PM.

Winter hours for Booklovers’ Gourmet are Tuesday-Friday 10AM-6:30PM and Saturday 10AM-5PM.

Congratulations, Deb!  Here’s to another 23 years…or more!
