On Monday January 8th, the North Brookfield Police Department received a telephone call from Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge  reporting that they had just transferred a 35 year old man to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for further treatment of a gunshot wound to the side of his abdomen.

According to the police report, this shooting incident took place on Friday, January 5th at around 10PM. The victim was treated and released from UMass Medical Center.  North Brookfield Police say the resident of Bigelow Street was outside shoveling his driveway and as he turned he briefly saw a person holding a rifle.  As the victim turned with the shovel, the rifle discharged, causing a bullet wound to the victim’s side.

Because of the sub-zero temperatures, the suspect was described as wearing several layers of clothing at the time, including a dark jacket and a full-face knit hat.

The North Brookfield Police are being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with any information about this masked shooting is asked to contact  Officer Chris Donais at the North Brookfield Police Department, by calling (508) 867-0206 or the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit at (508) 832-9124.
