MassPike Bridge In Charlton Named After Trooper Clardy
Friday marked 2 years since Massachusetts State Police Trooper Thomas Clardy was killed in the line of duty during a 2016 traffic stop on the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Members of the State Police, as well as Governor Charlie Baker, and The Clardy Family gathered on Friday as the 44 year old father of seven was remembered in a bridge renaming ceremony at the State Police Barracks in Charlton. The Route 49 bridge over the Pike will now be named “The Trooper Thomas L. Clardy Memorial Bridge” and the road leading to the Charlton Police Barracks will now be known as “Clardy Way” or the “Clardy Pass.”
Clardy had pulled over an SUV on the Mass Pike when another driver, who was allegedly high on marijuana, hit and killed him. That driver, David Njuguna of Webster, will face trial, and possible manslaughter charges next month.
