Omar Abu/Webster Police Department

On the afternoon of Sunday January 6th, Webster Police were dispatched to an apartment on 40 Lake Street for the report of a resident inside that had been assaulted by male with a firearm.

Webster Police say 4 officers responded to the home in under a minute.  Two officers attempted to make entry into the apartment while 2 monitored the back door.

The suspect, later identified as 27 year old Omar Abu of Worcester, ran out the back door once police arrived and was taken into custody without indecent.

Police say there were three people inside the apartment at the time of the assault.  The suspect was believed to be in Webster with the intent of collecting money that was owed to him from someone at the apartment.

At some point during the altercation, Abu reportedly pulled the firearm out and pointed it at the person, at one point holding it to his forehead.  After a short struggle police were called and arrived at the scene.

Abu was transported to the Webster Police Department where he was processed and charged with attempted murder, home invasion, 3 counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery to collect a loan, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He was held on $100,040 and will be arraigned at Dudley District Court today.
