At approximately 3:30 AM, a Massachusetts State Trooper assigned to State Police barracks in Holden was patrolling Route 290 Eastbound in Auburn.  As he approached Exit 9, the officer observed a black Chevrolet sedan being driven in two lanes on the highway. The driver, identified as 51-year-old George Richards of Riverside, RI was found to have 4 unlawful firearms in the vehicle without a license to carry. Police removed the firearms from the vehicle and detained Richards while the investigation continued. During the investigation, it was determined the suspect had two active warrants for his arrest in Massachusetts.  Richards was placed under arrest and taken into custody.   Upon taking inventory of the vehicle, a total…

On Thursday afternoon, the Massachusetts State Police has announced detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office is looking for more tips in the Molly Bish case. Francis “Frank” P. Sumner Sr. has been named a person of interest in the murder of Molly Bish, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. announced. Sumner, who died in 2016, is being investigated in the 2000 murder of the 16-year-old after investigators recently received new information. Sumner, born in 1945, was active in the Central Massachusetts area from 1960 through 2016. He was known to operate auto repair shops in the Spencer, Leicester and Worcester areas. The Dudley Police Department has announced they will once again be taking part in an upcoming Massachusetts Special Olympics Cruiser Convoy. This year marks the 14th year the Dudley Police are participating in this event.  According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, “The Cruiser Convoy is one of the most anticipated Law Enforcement Torch Run events of the year.”  In 2019, police departments in Massachusetts helped raise over $735,000 to benefit the Special Olympics. Crews worked through the early morning hours on Thursday, June 3rd to restore power to several neighborhoods in Auburn.  Auburn Police report a tractor-trailer truck crashed into a pole near the intersection of Jerome Avenue.  Traffic was diverted for several hours in the area while the power was restored and the scene cleaned up. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the crash has not yet been released.

Kelly Library is inviting the public to check out some new soon-to-be fuzzy friends.  Seven chicken eggs are currently incubating in the lobby of the library located at 2 Lake Street in Webster. In addition to the new chicks, there are even some books about how to raise chickens available to read while you’re there. The library is open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 10 AM to 5 PM, Wednesdays from 10 AM to 1 PM, and Thursdays from 10 AM to 7 PM. Emergencies don’t take holidays off.  That was proven on this Memorial Day as the Webster Fire Department was hard at work on Monday afternoon fighting flames that broke out at the rear of the new Caribbean Grill at 248 Main Street.   Crews were dispatched to the sight of smoke in the area at around 4:45PM.  The street was closed to traffic for a few hours while first responders were on the scene.  Main Street was back open as of 7PM on Monday evening and traffic has returned to normal. Just before 1AM this morning, May 28th, Dudley Police responded to a call for a 73-year-old female who was being treated at the hospital in Webster.  Police say the woman was the victim of an assault who had driven herself to get treated for serious injuries to her face and other parts of her body. 56-year-old Thomas Smith of 3 Marshall Terrace in Dudley is believed to have entered the victim’s home on Brandon Road, assaulting her and threatening her with a firearm.  In a press release, Dudley Police Chief Steve Wojnar says, “The victim and suspect know each other and the motive for the attack is under investigation.”  After a search of the suspect’s…

The Webster School Department will be holding a free Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic in the parking lot of Webster Middle School on Thursday, June 3rd from 8AM to 1PM.  Walk-ins will be welcome and no appointment, identification, or insurance will be needed. The vaccination clinic is open to any community member age 12 and up.  The clinic will be run by the Massachusetts Department of Health.  An important note, in order for children between the ages of 12 and 18 to receive a vaccine without a parent or guardian present, a consent and screening form must be sent to school with the child that day.  Second doses of the vaccine are already planned for June 24th.…

  The Douglas Police Department has announced a donation of over $800 was made to the Doug Flutie Foundation For Autism.  In April, the department sold patches with the proceeds benefiting the organization.  The goal of the Flutie Foundation is to help improve the quality of life for people and families affected by autism. The organization said, “We are grateful for your generous community support for autism acceptance and inclusion!” Patches were $10 each and sold in the lobby of the police station in Douglas.

The office of the Massachusetts Fire Marshall has announced the cause of the deadly fire on High Street in Webster will be listed as “undetermined.” The 3-alarm blaze claimed the life of 60-year-old Paul Duvall on May 19th.  When first responders arrived on the scene, police officers were able to rescue a woman that was trapped on the roof of the home by borrowing a ladder from a neighbor. It is believed Duvall became trapped inside while trying to rescue pets from inside the burning home.  Webster Fire Chief Brian Hickey offered condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
