  Webster Police have announced a recent drug arrest on North Main Street.  Around 10 AM on June 25th an officer made a motor vehicle stop after receiving information about a possible drug sale. Police say the driver, 53-year-old Nicolas Diaz Rivera of Worcester, was found to have crack cocaine and heroin “secreted on his person.”  Officers seized about 14 grams of cocaine and $300. Rivera was charged with Possession of Class A and B substances with intent to distribute.  He was held on $790 cash bail and arraigned at Dudley District Court on June 28th.

On Thursday afternoon at around 12:30 PM, first responders from Dudley reported to a 2 vehicle crash on West Main Street. Upon arrival, police and fire crews found a pickup truck down an embankment into a small river.  Two people were removed from the vehicle by fire and EMS personnel and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has announced additional vaccination opportunities for Massachusetts residents via the newly created mobile vaccination unit.  The “VaxBus” is expected to increase access to Covid-19 vaccines across the state. The Commonwealth is hosting community-based mobile vaccination clinics in 23 municipalities across Massachusetts.  The municipalities include those that are part of the Vaccine Equity Initiative and those with lower-than-average vaccination rates. The mobile clinics will be in easy to access locations to reach individuals that may have trouble getting vaccinated in a traditional setting. Members of the public can show up to be vaccinated without an appointment.  The VaxBus will offer the two-dose Pfizer vaccine for ages 12 and up and the single-dose…

Similar to the work being done on the Webster/Dudley line, road closures will soon be in place in the town of Charlton. According to the Charlton Police Department, beginning July 6th, Brookfield Road at the intersection of City Depot Road will be closed for bridge replacement work over Cady Brook. If you were commuting on Route 395 on Friday morning you were probably in standstill traffic.  Crews from Webster and Oxford Fire-EMS responded to a fully engulfed tractor-trailer fire at around 10:20 AM. Prior to first responders arriving, the driver was able to disconnect the tractor from the trailer and move it away from the fire.  Due to the location of the fire, both lanes of 395 had to be closed while crews battled the flames.  Traffic was backed up for several miles. The road re-opened to traffic once the remains of the truck were cleared away and traffic slowly returned to normal speeds. Photos from the scene are below.

District Attorney Joe Early, Jr. was in town to present a $5,000 check in support of the Cops N Kids Program. The Southbridge Police Department’s Cops N Kids Program is a year-round effort to reduce juvenile delinquencies and build stronger relationships with local youths.  The program began over 20 years ago, and the program boasts juvenile delinquency rates dropping over 85% since its inception. Oxford Police are investigating a domestic incident that took place on Tuesday evening that left one man and one woman dead at 234 Old Webster Road. THE LAKE 940 has learned a 911 call was placed at around 5:20 PM on Tuesday afternoon after shots were fired.  According to a post from Charlton Police on Facebook, “Three children, ages 13, 4 and 3, were present at the time of the incident.” The woman was found deceased in the kitchen of the home, the man’s body was found outside. Just before 8 PM on Saturday, June 19th, Southbridge Police were called to the intersection of Union and Oliver Streets to investigate the report of loud music and vehicles racing in the road. Officers were able to clear the scene but were called back twice more by 8:30 PM for complaints of a similar nature. Closing in on 9 PM, Southbridge Police had to return for a fourth time, where a crowd of more than 50 people had gathered, drinking alcohol and setting off fireworks, according to police. Southbridge Police didn’t have to go very far to catch these three individuals.  Officers were dispatched to their own Police Station lobby at 12:15 PM on Tuesday, June 15th for the report of a disorderly disturbance. According to a press release from Chief Shane Woodson, “The three subjects became belligerent and combative towards officers and refused numerous requests to calm down.”  The trio didn’t even give a reason as to why they were at the police station.
