At approximately 3:30 AM, a Massachusetts State Trooper assigned to State Police barracks in Holden was patrolling Route 290 Eastbound in Auburn.  As he approached Exit 9, the officer observed a black Chevrolet sedan being driven in two lanes on the highway.

The driver, identified as 51-year-old George Richards of Riverside, RI was found to have 4 unlawful firearms in the vehicle without a license to carry.
Police removed the firearms from the vehicle and detained Richards while the investigation continued.

During the investigation, it was determined the suspect had two active warrants for his arrest in Massachusetts.  Richards was placed under arrest and taken into custody.   Upon taking inventory of the vehicle, a total of four firearms, 177 rounds of ammunition, approximately $120,000 in cash, and two magazines able to hold 13 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
The suspect was transported to the Holden Barracks for booking where he was held without bail.  Richards was later transported to Worcester District Court where he was arraigned four counts of illegal possession of a firearm, 2 counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID Card, and marked lanes violations.

Police say he will also be brought before a judge at Uxbridge District Court on two prior active warrants.
