On Tuesday afternoon, around 2:20PM, a male entered the North Brookfield Savings Bank, located on West Main Street in West Brookfield, and demanded cash.

While a weapon was threatened, none was shown.  The male was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Bank employees were able to provide police with an accurate description of the vehicle with license plate number.  The vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

Several police departments, including the Brookfield, North Brookfield, Warren, Sturbridge, Monson, Holland, Brimfield and the Massachusetts State Police responded to the bank to assist.

Shortly after the report of the robbery, the vehicle was spotted in Brimfield by Officer Daniel Fagan.  After a brief chase, the vehicle crashed on Dix Hill Rd.  The suspect ran from his vehicle into the woods.

A perimeter was established, and with help of state police K-9 Viktor, police were able to arrest Gary Laviolette.  He was taken to Harrington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and then transported to the Brookfield State Police barracks.

Laviolette is being charged with Armed Robbery, Larceny and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.  The stolen money was recovered.
