The Center of Hope Foundation, Inc., currently serves nearly 200 individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in its Employment Supports program. The program, which includes adults from both Massachusetts and Connecticut, prides itself on its entrepreneurship and individualized services.  The Department oversees many small businesses in the local community, which are designed to provide on-the job-training that can lead to competitive job placements in the local community.

Individuals are able to learn many skills working within 13 small local businesses; full service printing from Vivid Print, car detailing Just the Details, shredding from Shreds of Hope, recycling with Cans of Hope, customer service from Hope’s Treasures Thrift Store, packing and production from Noress Corporation and more.

Erika Travinski, Assistant Chief Operating Officer of the agency, tells THE LAKE 940, “So much of our identity is tied to our work and it is no different for an individual who has a disability. I have seen first-hand the sense of pride and accomplishment one has when they are receiving a pay check and know that they are valued as a contributing employee.”

The program supports individuals with varying disabilities and designs supports based on what each person needs.  It can range from one-on-one job coaching to help someone learn the skills needed to be successful, to monthly check ins, based on the needs of the employer and employee.  Trained Employment Specialists work closely with employers to ensure the ideal candidate is matched to the right position and then works closely with the employer and employee to ensure the job placement is successful.

If you are interested in learning more about how the Center of Hope can provide qualified candidates for open positions, or more about the Center overall, you are invited to attend their Sandwich and Social which is being held on Tuesday,  July 17 from 12:00-1:30PM.  While you’re there you can enjoy a complementary lunch while learning about the agency, the history, their small businesses and tour the facility.

The Center Of Hope offers a wide range of opportunities to help the community, and they guarantee you will learn something new and be happy you came.
