The Dudley Do-Right Flea Market Is Done
This is a real bummer. One of the area’s largest flea markets has closed. Dudley’s Do-Right Flea Market is now a thing of the past. “Due to a series of unfortunate events with the building, the flea market has closed for good” and will not be able to re-open in the Steven’s Mill Building. A message posted on the store’s Facebook page on January 7th read, “The building is frozen and flea market is closed.” It has not re-opened since then.
People from Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island would stop there on weekends and walk through the several rooms of hard to find items at great prices. We reached out to Mike Kaplin, the owner, but he would not comment on if the store will be able to re-open in another location.
A post on Facebook that has since been deleted read, “If you know of a suitable location within a 15 mile radius, please contact us with any pertinent information at DudleyDoRightFleaMarket@Gmail.com.”
I know many local people have spent many weekends there over the 9 years they were in business. We even used to run commercials for them when they were little known and just starting out back in 2009 and 2010. In a statement, Mike Kaplin said he “would like to thank each and everyone of you for your patronage over the last 9 years. We will miss you and the fun we had there.”
The Telegram & Gazette reports that George Peterson of New Hampshire owns the large mill building and he owes more than $40,000 in back property taxes. The vendors who had items in the building will be contacted soon about getting their merchandise out.
We really hope the Dudley Do-Right Flea Market can find a new home. In the meantime, try the Charlton Flea Market, located at 26 Trolley Crossing Road, The Douglas Flea Market on 436 Northeast Main Street, or the Yankee Flea Market a little further away in Palmer at 1311 Park Street (Route 20.) If you know of another local flea market, please contact us.
