Dudley Police Warn Residents Of Mail Scam

The Dudley Police Department’s Facebook page reports a mail scam has been showing up in residents’ mailboxes this week.  It was reported to the Town Assessor’s office on Thursday afternoon.  A Dudley resident received an official looking piece of mail with a request for payment of an $86 service fee to obtain a copy of their current grant deed and property assessment profile.

The letter and information in the letter did not come from the town of Dudley, and you are encouraged not to submit payment to them or give them any of your personal information.

The Secretary of State website says, a copy of your deed may be obtained from the Registry of Deeds at the cost of 50 cents per page. Certified copies are available at a cost of $1.00 per page.

The “Property Assessment Profile,” which includes information relative to tax assessed value, tax delinquency, legal description, current owner information and parcel ID number are available from city and town assessor’s offices at no charge.
